Default Arrested Development season 1 DVD question

On the DVDs, what do they censor?
  • Are cuss words still "bleeped" out?
  • Is Kitty's chest still blurred whenever she flashes?
  • Are there any added scenes that contain profanity?

It's fine if you can't answer all of them; the most important one to answer is probably the second one down. The reason I'm wondering is because I want to get this for someone and I'm trying to determine if it's appropriate for them.

Yes, they're bleeped out, and the breasts (if they're even exposed during filming) are blurred. I don't think there's any profanity in extra scenes.

same as the tv, words are bleeped out and chest is blurred. I don't think I remember any added scenes that contain profanity but there are a few behind the scenes shorts that might have a curse word in there

That's interesting...I thought there was an "Extended Pilot" that was uncensored.

I don't have the DVD myself (I've been waiting to see if there will ever be a Blu-ray release) so I can't say for 100% sure, but my understanding is that it should contain all episodes (including the pilot) as aired (i.e. with the bleeping).

However, you are correct in that there should also be an 'Extended Pilot' on there, which does not have the profanity bleed out. I'd consider that to be more of a special feature.

The censorship makes it funnier IMO

I agree. Plus, some parts aren't even truly 'censored.' For example, I don't remember which season/episode it was from, but the one scene where Buster's lines were being bleeped out for what seemed like minutes, apparently he was just reciting the alphabet, which knowing that kinda makes the scene even funnier. lol

The show was produced with the bleeps and censorship built into the episodes. There isn't an uncensored version.

The censorship is carried over to the new Netflix season where language and nudity don't really matter.

The extended pilot bleeps it out too.

Edit: whoops, I guess I remembered incorrectly. They are in fact there.

The closest thing to a swear is when Tobias is about to say "c*nt" and Maeby walks in and he changes it to "country"

Yeah, and I was relieved they chose to continue that into Netflix.

Really? Hmmm... I'm pretty much 100% sure I saw an extended version of the pilot uploaded onto some video site that had no bleeping. I distinctly remember hearing some swear words that would not be allowed on network television. I assumed it was from the DVD... but maybe not. But it must exist somewhere?

I'l have to check it out again, but I don't remember the swearing. I'll pop in my discs and see.

Okay sorry for the misinformation above, the extended pilot does have the swears uncensored. I noticed two f-bombs, both within a minute or two from one another around the 20-23 minute mark. I don't know how I missed them before lol. . I guess I hear them so much that my mind just glossed over them or something. One is from a Magic alliance member who tells Gob to "F-off traitor" and the other from George Bluth who says "I have the worst ****ing lawyers". Not sure if I missed any more

Even with the lack of bleeps in the extended pilot, it's funnier than the aired version. The joke about Buster and his cartography classes is especially funny ("Never hurts to double check.") and it has a bit more room to establish so many characters in such a short time.
