Came out today. Anyone else pick it up?

Just watched it now. Picture and sound quality both very good. Fairly barebones with the only extras being cast and crew interviews (Pitt and Gandolfini notably missing.) English soundtrack and subs only. Also locked to region B.

Brilliant film that seems to have slipped under the radar somewhat. Well worth picking up.

Interested to see this, but the selection of bonus material is disappointing. It looks like the French disc will have more extras:

Quote:
BONUS & EXTRAS :

- Conférence de presse à Cannes

- Featurettes

- Interview du réalisateur

Anchor Bay claims the US disc will have a Making of, as well as deleted scenes:

We'll see how the U.S. disc turns out, McCrutchy, but I will probably pick it up as well. Or the French disc.

This was a top film It has a reserved spot on my Ten Best Films of 2013 list already.

I'm a huge fan of The Assassination of Jesse James but this one left me quite cold, outside of a few magnificent individual scenes (like the hold-up at the beginning).

My biggest gripe is that almost every scene plays the same way. We get a conversation between two characters, and it focuses about a third character (who's not or who's barely in the film) that one of the other two characters knows quite well, we get a full story about the guy, which mostly reveals how tired the speaking guy is. Then, at some point, it cuts to a radio or a TV with quotes from the 2008 Presidential campaign, to show the discrepancy between reality of the economy and the empty slogans by both candidates.

The subtext of the movie is so blatant that it's not subtext anymore. The only way to make it more obvious would be a 3D screening that just flashes "SUBTEXT" in 3D right in front of your nose or a robotic arm next to your seat that would nudge you every time there's an allusion.

I was a little disappointed with the film as well. A few stylish scenes that looked pleasing to the eye, but the story seemed too drawn out and not beefy enough to keep me interested. Almost like a sub plot to a better film that lasted 90 mins.

I agree with this, especially the parts in bold - and it's frustrating because the outstanding scenes really are outstanding and the actors are all fantastic - Gandolfini hasn't been this great to watch since The Sopranos. So it's a shame that the core is so weak and the overall effect is a fairly forgettable film.

Totally agree with Posts #16 on down. This really disappointed me. As soon as I saw the previews I was like. "I'm there!" When I saw it, ouch. What was the point of James Gandolfini's character anyway?
[Show spoiler]I mean they bring him in to do a job, he and Pitt have a 15 minute conversation at the bar almost about nothing, then another 10 minute conversation about nothing again and then he's gone? He does nothing. The character had no poiint even being in the movie...NONE!
The movie had a few high points like the bar scene near the end where Pitt was fantastic. One of his best performances I think. IMO, this one deserves a rent before a buy.
