Default Warner Brothers Producing "Archie" Live Action Movie, based on the comic book series

Looks like Warner Brothers is moving forward with producing a live action version of the long running comic book series, "Archie".

Quote:
The studio has just closed a deal to make a live-action movie based on the long-running comic, with Jason Moore (Pitch Perfect) directing and Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa (the new Carrie) writing. There’s no official logline right now, but there’s reason to believe the team will spice up Archie’s usual high school shenanigans with the presence of zombies.
Quote:
The deal comes not long after Aguirre-Sacasa signed on to write a horror-inflected Archie title, Afterlife with Archie, which will debut later this year. The book sees Archie and his gang dealing with a zombie apocalypse that’s somehow Jughead’s fault. No plot details for the movie have been confirmed at the moment, but Deadline speculates that Aguirre-Sacasa’s hiring means zombies will be involved in one way or another.

I don't think it'll be as bad as Scooby Doo. I actually enjoyed the first movie. The second film was like "meh". But when Warner brothers started doing the direct-to-video live action films, I've found them to be more enjoyable than the theatrical films Warner brothers made.

Hopefully, Warner Brothers can do a live action feature of "Archie" and produce it correctly, but without the zombies.

A LOT like the Scooby-Doo movie, unfortunately--
Which would be a reasonably funny idea for a spoof, if...we'd ever actually had a live-action mainstream Archie movie or series in recent memory to compare it to.
(What, you remember the 70's cartoons? Step up and tell us you're a million years old...)

Warner went into the Scooby-Doo movie convinced that audiences were ready to throw rocks and stones at a pop-cultural trope they knew from childhood, and since the reruns were still on Cartoon Network, they believed it.
Like the Smurfs movies, any movie that goes in believing it's got the Scooby Movie's act is going to go start beating up a well be-hated franchise from minute one, and unfortunately sail a few feet over the audience's head, twisting something most people don't know the details of to begin with, which will just end up being a distraction. Once the zombies show up, modern audiences are likely to think, "Hey, wait, gimme more of that regular stuff we saw at the beginning!"

Now, ICv2 is reporting on the Archie movie and they mention nothing about Zombies being in it. Crap, the worst thing they could do is include Zombies in an Archie movie. Everyone knows that the movie is going to be campy, and it should be. That's all the fun in it. Like the first Scooby Doo movie, it was campy as hell, but a lot of movie fans loved it. Crap, I loved the first film. But, it was the second movie that was ridiculous. It just wasn't funny and they tried to turn it into a serious film.

This movie is 10-15 years too late. I think the timing would have been perfect during that era. Now... I don't think anybody wants this.

Same with a Jetsons movie. Even though they could have made it years ago.

I'm hoping that they stay away from the "Zombie" influence and just concentrate on producing an Archie movie that retains the original campy fun as the comic book and the animated series.

if they want to do a Zombie thing later, then do it as a direct-to-video type of thing. Because I don't think an Archie vs Zombies would work. I'd rather like to see Archie vs The Punisher before I'd like to see Archie vs Zombies.

Good News. According to ICv2.com:

Quote:
the characters Kevin Keller and Cheryl Blossom will appear in the upcoming Archie live action movie (see "Archie Movie Set"), according to an interview with screenwriter Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa in the LA Times. Aguirre-Sacasa described the plot as "Archie’s coming-of-age story" and dispelled any idea that the film will feature a zombie storyline connected to his Afterlife with Archie arc for the comic publisher. "The movie and this series are completely separate entities," Aguirre-Sacassa said.

It sounds more like a classic Archie story. "Hopefully, it will be the 'Archie' movie people have been anticipating for 70-plus years," he said.
This is great news. No Zombies and that the movie will be grounded in the core Archie universe and not the wierd and wacky alternate versions that have appeared with superheroes and zombies.

I truly think max biallystock is the one who greenlights projects at Warner brothers. They keep making film after film that is guaranteed to lose money

ACK! I nevcer saw it but I found the original trailer for it. That TV movie was horrendous:

At any rate, I thought that Warner Brothers did a good job with the live action Scooby Doo movies and that Speed Racer movie from the Wachi's. lols
