![]() ![]() The Long Riders Blu-ray The Long Riders Blu-ray Review another site says this is coming June 7th. amazing! another great MGM western. (apparently it came out in 1980--bd.com lists 1979 for the German bd) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Long_Riders poster art-- http://www.moviegoods.com/Assets/pro...917.1020.A.jpg . For me, the long riders was my favorite western until I saw Tombstone but it's still my second choice. I know so many prefer Unforgiven and while it is good, it just didn't do as much for me as LR and TS. Glad this is on it's way to the shelves!

This was a day #1 for me, as I really like the movie. I saw it just last night, prior to seeing the review, and I pretty much concur.
It is a noticeable upgrade from the DVD, which I have(had). I'm not a huge fan of grain, but don't like the over DNR alternative...so with that said, this movie got about the best transfer with the budget a movie like this would command. My biggest beef as a total lack of extras. I'm a huge fan of Bonus Features, and I cringe every time a catalog comes out with next to nothing. I guess there was nothing in the vaults for this movie. All in all, for the $13.99 preorder price I paid, I can't complain too much. If you were a fan of this on DVD, I can safely say you will be happy with the blu-ray upgrade. |

my local Wal-marts had been getting in all these inexpensive MGM catalogs until this week.
I've been to 3 stores and not one title--no New York, New York, no Long Riders, etc. etc. don't really understand why this week was different, but it's time for another amazon order. ![]() I'm done hunting. |

Just watched last night and was very pleased with the presentation. I had never seen it before though I generally like Walter Hill (I wish an original version of THE WARRIORS was available on bd!) and liked very much. I just finished my first draft review (on the film's merits not A/V quality) and will post in a few days.

I bought the blu-ray of The Long Riders for $5 at the Urbana, IL Wal-Mart.
Couldn't resist it. |

I also found this for $5 at a Walmart in Jackson, MI. It was in an end cap which displayed other $5 BDs. (Highlander, Kickboxer, The Prophecy double pack). This particular store has had this display for the last month or so. don't think all walmarts have this $5 display cause I was 2 others in the last week and didn't see it.

Earlier tonight, I watched my MGM Blu-ray of The Long Riders, since I'm using the month of July to catch up on some westerns in my collection.
I used to enjoy renting The Long Riders on VHS, but tonight's viewing was my first in over two decades, and I had forgotten how much I loved this western. The filmmakers really hit a home run with their decision to cast real brothers for the members of the Jesse James Gang. Jesse James and Frank James are respectively played by James Keach and Stacey Keach. The Younger brothers are played by David Carradine, Keith Carradine, and Robert Carradine. The Millers are played by Randy Quaid and a young Dennis Quaid. Finally, the Ford brothers are played by Christopher Guest and Nicholas Guest. Director Walter Hill had a nonstop home run streak with his early films, Hard Times, The Driver, The Warriors, The Long Riders, Southern Comfort, and 48 Hours. As with the other films, Hill's restraint simply serves to make the explosive violence more intense when it does occur. The Northfield Minnesota ambush, one of the most legendary historical shootouts, is handled wonderfully here, with some of the most impressive stunt work that you'll see in cinema. I chuckled during one early scene, where a character is blown off of the back of a horse by gunfire, because I was able to see the wires pulling him off of the horse. I guess that nobody predicted that these films would ever have to stand up to the scrutiny of high definition. It's all in the fun, though. I'm pleased with the high definition presentation of The Long Riders on this Blu-ray disc. Sure, there is quite a lot of dirt and print imperfection, but this is one of those movies that shouldn't be cleaned up too much, lest one defeat the purpose. We only have a theatrical trailer as far as extras go, and, although I'd love to see more, I'm not holding my breath on a re-release. For now, I'm just happy to have this criminally underrated western in this existing presentation. Last edited by The Great Owl; 07-09-2016 at 02:36 AM. |

So I ordered Second Sight's superior Blu-ray release through Amazon UK. The receipt shows that it was fulfilled by Media Merchants through Amazon EU SARL. I've even received a (seemingly preemptive) dispatch notice.
Will I get my order, or do these guys not ship to the US? |

Why would you think you wouldn't get it?
I'm pretty sure Amazon UK will throw up plenty of warning signs along the path to checkout to alert you if the vendor you are ordering an item from can't ship to the US. I don't know if it will actually block the sale via software, but unless you blatantly ignored warnings that were posted, you should be OK. |
