United Kingdom UK Version of "Commando" is uncut! (Package mislabled)

On the back of the box it says 88 minutes. Which would indicate the running time of the cut British Version. I checked the Blu Ray. The running time is actually a little over 90 minutes.

The US Prints were used for the Blu Ray Version. So you actually get the longer Version. All previous Versions of this movie in the UK have been cut. The Blu Ray is your only chance for an uncut version.

(Sadly the Blu Ray only features the theatrical cut and not the 4 minutes longer Version that was released recently in the US on DVD).

Actually, it's just another Fox UK packaging cock-up as Commando has been passed uncut,(finally), for UK release. They're listing the PAL running time, regardless of cuts. The UK Robocop is the same, the BD is the uncut theatrical, yet they have the normal PAL runtime of 94 mins listed on the cover.

So the UK "uncut" is the US "theatrical"?

I was under the assumption that the true uncut version isn't on BD yet anywhere in the world.

What are the differences in the two versions (theatrical vs. uncut), specifically? Anyone know?

It's the theatrical cut. I just compared the director's cut to the regular version. I noticed just two things. After he goes out of the tool shed he hacks of the guys arm. You see that in both versions. In the director's cut version you see him walking away with the armless guy in the background wining.

Also the guy he hit's with the razor sharp blade you see bleeding.

That's the only two things I noticed. I am really well versed in that kinds of things but those were the only two things I noticed. I don't know where the other 4 minutes were added.

Just the scenes out of the tool shed. Everything else is not noticable. I did a comparison just 10 minutes ago..

Here's the uncut tool shed scene.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xpugzBuCbGs

There's also a few extended scenes elsewhere in the movie.

There are a few seconds of fight scenes that were cut out of the theatrical.

The UK passes everything now. Its almost like the censors don't need to exist anymore.

maybe that's why they passed "cliffhanger" without any cuts rated "15". The previous 15 version was heavily cut

I wrote about this in another thread, the BBFC generally exist now as distributors will generally push for 'R' rated films to be released at '15' in order to gain the extra revenue, and the BBFC will advise them on what cuts are required. I can't think of many mainstream films that would require cuts at the '18' level now, whereas at a push I'm guessing 'A Serbian Film' would probably be denied certification (certainly in uncut form) similar to 'Grotesque' (JP) from a year or two back.

A more compatible ratings system with the US would be welcome, especially if a film is cut to get an 'R' from 'NC-17' and then further cut to get a '15' here! (Can't think of any real examples, but it's a possibility).

There's also an extended dialogue scene with Arnold and that chick in the car early in the movie. But it's the toolshed scene(s) that stand out in the director's cut.

Both are MPEG-2 compression, so it's possibly the same transfer.
