Very nice video! Excellent tutorial! Thank you for sharing this with us sir. It will be very helpful to lots of members. I know I will be using this when it comes time as I have a lot of Steelbooks I need to work on but have been afraid to attempt. This tutorial is detailed enough and will give me confidence in trying to remove the spine. That double sided clear tape is brilliant. lol. Will a simple Goo Gone bottle work instead of the spray you used to remove the glue?

Thanks for your comments, I'm sure goo gone will work just as good as its pretty much the same as the sticky stuff remover.

All for the love of SteelBooks. Super video. Editing was perfect. Just get the lighting straightened out (re-orient your location to the window or use directed light). The hairdryer works much quicker than I expected. I've got some converted jumbos that need spines. I'll look for that thin double-stick tape. The standard stuff is 2-3x too thick.

Here's the link for the double-sided tape which is actually 6mm wide and not 5 as I state in the video.

Any way you can point us in the direction of some tape on AMZ US which will work or is the same size?

That tape is the bomb. I was using 3M tape, however I have noticed that that starts to turn yellowish and opaque after a while. This stuff is seriously clear.
My newly renovated 2 disc play editions of Transformers, Forrest Gump looks spectacular as do my Looper, I Am Legend and Snow White & The Huntsman.
As soon as I acquire some more 2 Disc inserts I will be converting my Play.com Iron Man and Iron Man 2.

What about something like this?

(Not saying this is a comparative thing, but it looks like it)

I've been converting Steelbooks for about 4 1/2 years now (one of the first, if not the first) and this tape is the best thing to happen for us converters. Even the best 3M tape is paper based so it will always be opaque, and as I said previously after a while it turns a nasty Yellow, your blue artwork now looks green, reds now orange. Plus it also breaks up and looses tackiness after a while at room temperature. I intend to stock up one this just in case. Only problem is now I have to redo all my previous conversions, that's about 150, including all the frame changes I did (3 disc to 2 disc etc)

Well I finally had a go at this, and whilst it went OK for a first time, IM not 100% happy with the spine. It sticks out a little too much, and you can see the white paper underneath. I just used normal photo paper, is that what everyone else uses, or is there a special thin paper?

Go for the lighter GSM paper, it's much thinner. Also make the artwork a little bit narrower so that it will not show from under the metal spine plate.
