Default Downloading taking forever..?

I was just wondering if there was something im missing. Whenever i download something, demos, games, updates, etc.... it takes FOREVER... like easily 10 times longer then my buddy who uses the same cable internet connection and both of us are on the same wireless connections using the same brand and type of router....

For instance the last update he had dl'd, installed, and running before i was even at 10% and he started about 10 minutes after me.

Anyone have any ideas on what i can check or do to speed my downloading up?

QoS(quality of service) policy setting maybe in your router if everything else is the same. it prioritzes what address gets more bandwidth

well if im reading that correctly are you assuming that we are both coming off the same router? ... sorry if i was unclear... we are in different houses.... we both use the same brighthouse netoworks cable internet (as in same service not the same ONE ...not splitting)... and we both have a belkin router... (again not using the actual SAME one to split our connection).

although on MY router i have three things.... my GFs computer is hardwired to the router, then my laptop and ps3 and wireless... would the QoS still pertain?

it is possable if your router has that option. i don't know enough about your hardware to tell you. If it is unsecured wireless and other people are accessing you wireless with a hotspot it eats away bandwidth

None of that really matters, cable speeds vary, your luckly, you could be getting 200kbps

Cable is a shared line, unlike DSL, soo if your neighbor is downloading a 50gig file, your internet contection will slow. Also it depends how far you are from the ISP's "HOME", for cable that is like 30 mile & speeds then drop, DSL is, I think, 5 miles, then speed drop.

test your speed:

I have a 10mbps connection (NYC Road Runner) and all of my PS3 downloads go very slowly.

I've just come to the sad realization that it's the PSN and not my connection. Everything else downloads between 900 and 1300 kbps realtime.

the PS3 stuff really slowed down yesterday because of all the new PS3 comming online updating, it might still be slow today.
