So I found a way that your PS3 can be used again while waiting for Sony to get around to fixing their mess.
This seems to be affecting those who replaced their HD's with ones that were 500GB or more. I had a 1TB in there when mine got screwed over by the firmware. Now they pulled the firmware, however there is still copies out there and I have access to one of them. If you replace your hard drive that is in your system now with one that is less than 500GB (maybe even 500GB would work, but I swapped it out with my 320GB) then load up the 4.45 firmware on a thumbdrive (the system mandates 4.45 or later, so you can't use 4.41), it'll format the HD and you could at least download some games, or play your games, watch Netflix, Hulu, VUDU, etc. If you need a copy of the firmware, then send me a PM and I'll send it your way. WARNING: IF YOU HAVE A HD THAT IS 500GB OR LARGER, DO NOT USE THE FIRMWARE. |

Most people online have said that this seems to be affecting those with hard drives larger than 500GB, so I don't know if it also includes those with ones of 500GB in size. |

June 27th? Unacceptable. Leaving people hanging for over a week is bad.
If it isn't done yet, leave it to the "Coming Soon" moniker. If it is done, get that out to the public. Now. If nothing else, release a version now that reverts to the last version. |

Is it safe to upgrade your hard drive if you have this firmware on your system already? I was planning on upgrading my 120GB slim PS3's hard drive to a 750GB this weekend, and I downloaded this update earlier this week (and I've had no problems with it).

I would rather they come public with an expected due date than leave me hanging out to dry with no explanation whatsoever. |

But to say they know a solution but they are just going to arbitrarily wait for 6 days is crap. |

The problem that many people had with the previous one is that they felt that not enough testing was done prior to releasing it, and as a result a lot of people got their systems bricked. NOW they are not only giving us a date, but saying "we're gonna give it to you after we test it thoroughly", and you're STILL pissed about it. I understand frustration over this, but if you have a smaller HD stick it in and load up the firmware that I can send you, and you'll be fine until then. |

Stuff like this is why any software/firmware worth their paycheck have the capability to revert firmware versions as well as go forward. The fact that they don't have it is more what I'm pissed at than the fact that they put out a release date.
And if they are doing thorough testing then they don't know a release date for sure. If they are doing final testing then they could release earlier than that. Putting a release date that far out tells me that the date is arbitrary. Far enough out that they THINK they can deal with the bugs that may or may not be there, yet not close enough that they are scared they won't make the deadline. Stop telling me not to be pissed about this. That's not for you to decide, and frankly is making me more pissed off. When has "Dude, calm down!" ever helped any situation, ever?
