Default Warner is great but don't forget....

To support the Studios that have actually supported Blu-ray fully from the beginning and are the only ones actually pushing the technology to make it better.

Sony, Fox, Beuna Vista have all never compromised on the picture or audio (lossless on every single title from the beginning). And if they made a mistake early on they have fixed it (ala The 5th Element). These Studios deserve our money just as much as Warner if not more. They have put a lot of time and effort into some AAA titles for us for the next two months and going into 2008 it is looking even better so let's not lose sight of who has actually made Blu-ray the dominant format.

Warner still has a lot to prove IMO as they have been hit or miss in the quality of their titles as it pertains to Blu. Leaving off lossless audio, missing extras, lowbitrate video, missing titles.

I want them to be BD exclusive as much as the next guy, but they need to first bring themselves to the quality of the current exclusive Studios. I'm not bending over backwards for sloppy seconds.

But with that said I do have Ocean's trilogy and Potter giftset on preorder.

I just buy the movies that I want. I think they end up being spread around the various blu studios pretty evenly.

This is why there are precious few Warner titles in my collection. I'm getting only those transfers that I feel will stand the test of time -- i.e., with lossless audio, nice fat AVC or VC-1 presentations (MPEG-2 only if a full BD-50 has been dedicated to it), and at least some meaningful extras. Only in the cases of old films with lo-fi audio recordings like The Wild Bunch will I agree to live with something less than lossless. Although even there it would certainly help...

I agree, Warner has a lot of work to do to reach the level of quality coming from the BD-only studios. We don't need HD DVDs packaged in Blu. And if they want to look at the sales of Blu-ray, I guess they should just look at the overall volume.

LynxFX - Good to see you have some titles on the go!

I hear what you're saying, and I think Warner doesn't care about proving anything to us. We need to prove to them that Blu-ray sales are best with Blu-ray so that we win them over exclusively. We can't control the prices of BD players, but we can control getting Warner on our side 100%. We need to ban together and win Warner, because if not, I fear the HD DVD guys are planning to win with Warner this critical quarter, especially with the Harry Potter titles.
You're doing your part, and I'm going to do mine; Not for Warner, but for the sake of Blu-ray winning this war sooner, by winning Warner onto our side. If everyone could put pride aside with Warner, and take one for the Blu team, we can win this thing. We have the purchasing power, and just need to ban together, before the HD DVD guys do, and win Warner instead of watchingalking about what will Warner do. Lets make it happen before HD DVD guys do!!!

Support for Warner IS support for Fox/Sony/Disney. If we turn WB Blu, then Blu-ray will win the war and the number of Blu-ray owners will skyrocket, yielding significantly higher sales of Fox/Sony/Disney movies.

Totally agree. No one has been more critical of Warner's PQ than me, but I am buying lots of Warner titles right now. The only way their PQ will improve is if they go blu exclusive. And I am buying lots of Sony, Disney, and Fox titles also.

Let them go HD-DVD exclusive, so I can laugh myself silly when HD-DVDers demand that they lower HDM prices to VHS/DVD level.

Good to see some positive feedback. The only reason I posted this was because of the sudden influx of "Focus all your buying on Warner" threads that have been popping up, as if the other Studios didn't matter. If I was Sony, Fox or Disney and saw that I would be thinking "What about us?" That's all.

Glad to see that not everybody is buying into the "We Love Warner" trend that seems to be going on. I've had mixed feelings about Warner since way back when there was talk around here about totally boycotting their BD releases because of their favoritism towards HD DVD.

My feeling on where Warner fits into the whole thing right now is that a) HD DVD can't survive without Warner, b) Blu-ray could survive, but cannot win without Warner, and c) Warner is very much aware of this.

As far as Exclusivity goes, it makes no financial sense for Warner to supprt HD DVD as they would lose the majority of what little money they make in HDM and a switch to HD DVD exclusivity would not end the format war. A switch to Blu exclusivity would quickly end it, but it would cost them some sales in the short term. By staying neutral they effectively play both ends against the middle.

Even though they made a few statements to make it look like they are leaning towards Blu, they had to be aware what that was going to cause the HD DVD side to do in order to get their numbers up. Flooding the market with cheap junk in order to get their own version of the PS3 effect going. Will it work? I don't think so but we'll see soon enough.

The real loser in all this will either be all of the people that wasted the money they spent on the cheap junk (best case scenario), or all of us as adoption of HDM stalls and eventually dies out.

The point of this little rant... I've said it before and I'm saying it again, Warner cares about Warner and is no great friend to the BDA. Does it piss anybody off other than me that they have obviously seen the writing on the wall and continue to be the primary tool in keeping HD DVD alive? I say Bad Form Warner! I'm not saying don't buy their titles. We all know where that would lead, but they are definitly no Disney when it comes to support for Blu-ray.

Well said Don. You expressed what has been my main beef with Warner as well. I'm still miffed that they didn't put the PiP green screen track as just an SD extra on the BD 300 disc. What would have been so hard about that?

I forgot, I am also picking up T3. I just don't think there are any other titles already released by them that I'll purchase though.

Short term it would cost them some sales. But that shortfall in sales would more than be made up for long term (and likely not too terribly long) with higher Blu-ray sales than would otherwise be the case.

This is what i do, i buy the movies i like to buy, i dont go wondering what studio they are. While i understand your argument, we should be enjoying the movies not worrying about which studios we need to buy movies from the most. And yes the main studios should be look at first, they are the true pioneers in this war that have stuck with us from the begining. Paramount is nothing more than second rate to me know.

exactly...this week I scooped up the SM trilogy and the shining...

next is live free or die hard and a clockwork orange...

when I purchase 2 movies...I try to make Warner one of them and spread the wealth to another studio...

but the key factor here is....these are movies I want to own..
