Default Scream Factory to release 9 Toho monster films?

So I was in my local Hastings brick and mortar when I googled a list of Scream Factory movies on my phone. I hit the Wikipedia (I know . . . I know) page where it is listed that Scream Factory is releasing Godzilla (1954), Godzilla Raids Again, King Kong vs Godzilla, Mothra vs Godzilla, Ghidorah, Astro-Monster, Ebirah, Rodan, and Mothra coming to Blu in 2014.

Anyone else heard about this?

Pretty sure they shot this rumor down via their Facebook page but not 100% sure.

That's interesting. I'll believe it when I hear it from the horse's mouth.

As far as I'm concerned, the Criterion Blu-ray of Godzilla (1954) is the definitive edition of that film, and I'm hard-pressed to imagine any improvement to that edition.

I would not mind having Rodan on Blu-ray, though. I used to love that flick when I was a kid.

Looks like a Godzilla boxset. That would be awesome if true. It would also be the third time that Gojira gets released in the US lol (Classic Media, and Criterion being the first 2).

I love Godzilla flicks, and to get several on Blu would be awesome. So for now, I want to believe . . .

No doubt about that. I don't think the Criterion can ever be topped.

This could be true especially since the big guy will come out with a new flick next year. I would love to see King Kong vs Godzilla!

I would think that the first one wouldn't be included due to Criterion's release.

I wouldn't be opposed to a box set, but I wouldn't hold my breath on it happening, either...

My heart nearly stopped when I read the thread title. I hope this is true, after all, SOMEBODY has to re-release these films, what with the new American Godzilla film coming out. Even if they just use Toho's dusty old transfers, I'd be glad to have an affordable domestic release.

A few days ago there was a Wikipedia-based rumor that Scream would be releasing Godzilla 1985 (Return of Godzilla), but they shot that down on Facebook. Either something real is stirring up these rumors before announcement or somebody is doing some highly specific trolling.

Weren'y all of these released in Japan by Toho a couple of years back (except for King Kong vs. Godzilla)? They are all in Japanese language. Detroit Sports Fan (one of our super moderators) purchased all of the Japan Toho releases (including War of the Gargantuas).

It would be amazing to get US blu-rays of these films, but it seems unlikely that we'll ever get the American versions. My fingers are crossed.

Here is the scoop on these 9 movies

6 of them were with Classic Media - maybe they lost the rights to them
2 of them (Ebirah and Mothra) were with Columbia, and maybe decided to license them to Scream
1 - KK vs. Godzilla IS with Universal

Who knows...maybe this does have some feasibility to it, but still until Scream announces something we better just take it at face value, this would be awesome though

They need to get their hands on Godzilla Vs. The Sea Monster so they can release the MST3K version.

That's no fun. I really hope that there will eventually be a Blu-ray of the AIP Godzilla vs The Smog Monster. Saaaaaaaaaaaave the Earth! Until then I have the laserdisc.
