How many movies have imitated this after the dark knight? The villain gets captured on purpose and then does some horrible counter attack and escapes and we say: whoa he wanted to be captured. Some examples include the expendables 3 and Skyfall. Are there any more examples? And please correct me if this has happened before the dark knight. I could be wrong. Nevertheless it is a recurrent movie event.

Yeah. I remember when watching the expendables 3 and Mel Gibson's character gets captured early on I was thinking: Oh let me guess, he got captured on purpose to deliver some lethal blow to the expendables. |

Yeah, even when I first watched The Dark Knight I immediately thought of SE7EN. Many more examples as mentioned by other posters here. If there is a "pattern" then maybe it was started by Revenge of the Sith as it was the more mainstream film that did it before The Dark Knight. I'm not saying it is, but I don't see a "pattern" of trying to follow or imitate a particular film.
