Default Cornbread, Earl and Me - June 21, 2016 (Olive Films)

Couldn't find a thread for this. I remember it really affecting me as a kid.

Surprised it's getting a Blu-ray release after all this time.

I bought this DVD a couple of years ago, thinking it would never see the light of day on Blu.

(My cover doesn't look like that though!)

I'm guessing no one has seen this movie? Kinda shocked at the lack of love for it.

I liked it. I don't know if I'll pick it up. It was really sad (to me).

I feel the same way. As sacrilegious as this sounds, and even though I created the thread, the DVD might be enough for me. It really depends on the extras. If Olive loads this up with compelling bonus content, I'd be more tempted.

That atrocious cover, which looks like a bad photoshop farmed out to the lowliest intern, doesn't exactly fill me with optimism.

Wasn't there a Dying Girl involved as well?

Just saw Cornbread, Earl, and Me on the regular DVD (haven't picked up the Blu yet) - this is the first time I've ever seen this fim.

And, I wanted to post here to those who may be on the fence about the film based on the content itself: This is an amazing, extremely poignant/heartfelt film; it was quite depressing, but extremely well-done.

The film started off light-hearted, which made the later
[Show spoiler]sudden death of Cornbread that much more shocking. Obviously, it was quite ironic that Cornbread would have been one of the first youths in the community to go away to college, was anti-drug(s), and was a positive role model to some of the younger kids in the community.

The storyline reminded me quite a bit of many news stories that we've seen on a regular basis over the years, including very recently; in many ways, not much has changed since the '70's.

And, no, there was no dying girl in this film; that may be another movie you're thinking of.

Watched this on TCM recently. Just here to mention that Svet's review is perplexing. He goes on about Chicago but this was filmed in California!
