Since Blu-ray has really hit it's stride with many studios re-releasing older catalogue titles with newly minted transfers, I think it would be interesting to see the same reviewers from this site revaluate the initial review's they posted. Our expectations have changed on what we think a good transfer should look like.
I have started re-watching many older catalogue titles to see how they stack up against newer catalogue titles. For example Casino Royale received a very positive review, re-watching it I still think it looks amazing. Another example is the original Dawn Of The Dead BD. It also received a positive review but watching it again it is IMO a poor transfer plagues with DRN. I am not comparing DOD with Casino Royale, but many older Blu-rays that received a good rating or review that if reviewed now would get a subpar rating. A few more examples are American Gangster, Batman Begins etc. They received good reviews. Re-watching them I wouldn't give AG more than 2.5 stars with it's terrible DNR and Batman Begins no more than 3. Last edited by ROSS.T.G.; 08-31-2016 at 07:25 PM. |
