Italy SUNSET BOULEVARD - Paramount - ITALIAN/GERMAN - RELEASE - 19/12 June 2013

...This was my ... Review of Edition UK, which at the time I wrote, and since June 19 (18 to be exact, and 12 June in Germany) is available on BD Italian, and since also, there are "bad" news respect, that even then I had assumed, after two months (almost) exact, also inaugurate the discussion here ...:

...ARE YOU READY FOR ITS CLOSE-UPS !!!...

…THE RESTORATION ...::

…So , about SUNSET BOULEVARD, as for other works including: Citizen Kane - Stagecoach - The Godfather, etc. .., there was not even the original negative, long time (unfortunately) lost ..
...In one of the first projects for a release on DVD of the Opera, Paramount as a primary source, "discovered" that was available only a duplicate of the third generation (probably always negative) anything but in good condition.
...Then , back in 2002 after few attempts, the task of Restoring SB was entrusted to Lowry Digital, this was one of the first large and complex restorations that were ever made at the time, since the work was first scanned at 2K and later fully restored, using the Best Digital Technique of the moment.
... Now, after 10 years, the New Miraculous Shocking and Restoration, (Supervised and Performed by Paramount Team, headed by the Vice President of the Archives of Paramount Pictures Corporation) were used the best scanners and the best equipment currently available (which as we all know, in fact some real strides in recent years) in this way, starting from the Copy (created at the time the movie was released in 1950) Preserved at the Library of Congress of the United States of America , was first of all made a New Scan, this time to 4K resolution, and then you have used all the instruments possible, to ensure Giving back to the film, his unique look and all shades and shadows that mark, in Specifically, the interior of the Mansion of Gloria Swanson, with all the games in low lights and shadows, which at the time were Masterfully Immortalise Superb Photography by John Seitz, an Operation Complex and really very, very important, in which the Copy provided by the Library of Congress, and used as a starting point, he had a role Vitale and Fundamental Importance, not to mention the intake of the heirs of Direct of Photography, in this case has been appealed to the son of John Seitz, to make sure you do exactly what the choices were Epoch Stylistic / Artistic of Cinematographer, since in fact, the original negatives were no more ... a real challenge, because, after all scanned at the highest resolution possible, not having to available to the Primary Source, instrumentation was also crucial to bring Literally in the Work Life in all its splendid Monochrome Look, and in his Superb and Finest Detail of dark lines.
Another note about ..., it should be absolutely given to the team that has worked on the restoration, which from Elements of Second Generation, and has returned Beautifully Preserved the Grit Very Fine (captured through scanning 4K) and Extremely Pleasant who donated the Detail (in terms of definition) Ultrafine, clearly visible during the Vision in the decorations of the Interior, but especially on the Wonderful clothes, created for Gloria Swanson by Ingenious and Historic Pencil by Edith Head.

…The BLU RAY DISC:

...The transfer on BD in question (UK and also USA edition, of course...), is the most magnificent one can imagine, because we are fortunate to have Impeccably Poured into a 50GB BD, all work done by Team Paramount which was mentioned earlier.
...So , AVC encoding to High Bit rate (constant at 30-33 Mbps) and compression nonexistent, fine grain typical of 4K scans, Detail-Contrast - Black Level and Grayscale have a yield that has the Divine Miracle, and it's hard to do even any kind of comparison with similar films!
...In a nutshell , Scan / Restoration by Absolute Reference, which is considering the starting points, far exceeds the state of the art!

…The EXTRA and the AUDIO TRACK:

...The BD disc , viewed by me is intended for the UK market (released February 4, 2013) I took it ,the Day/One, and that's exactly the exact same of what is already available for sale in the U.S. market, from November 6th , 2012, only the cover is different, which in Edition USA, depicts the Old Era Original poster, and it is definitely much more beautiful .
...Of course , it does NOT have the audio track subtitles in Italian and German, audio tracks are available in:

English: Dolby TrueHD Mono
French: Dolby Digital Mono
Spanish: Dolby Digital Mono
Portuguese: Dolby Digital Mono

...While, The subtitles are available in:
English, English N / U, French, Spanish and Portuguese.

...Of course, I listened to the Audio Track in English Mono Dolby True HD, which travels at about 1.6 Mbps, and is equal to the yield Visual Extraordinary and for clarity and ease in understanding the dialogues and the Extreme Cleaning the same, considering that nearly 65 years on his shoulders!
...Clearly the whole, with the help of English subtitles available and knowing the Movie practically frozen in my memory (as I imagine many of you ...) I have not encountered any particular problems during the mink, which I accompanied by my trusty vocabulary in English, not to miss the moment and to translate that word that you may not know, as they say: join the Net profit equally combine, because here there is little pleasure
... Of course, being the same Disk USA, this UK Edition, has exactly all the Overtime and infinite Extra, (which I have viewed only partially) contained in Edition USA! ... Where they are present, including those inserted and taken from the previous edition on DVD USA, some Brand new and in HD!

...Among these there is an absolute rarity, the cut (also restored) scene...:

"The Paramount-Don't-Want-Me Blues"!

...Now honestly speaking, I do not know what is the game played by Paramount, and I wonder why to get out of the UK edition without audio Italian and German without that, perhaps because they are going to NOT put all the Beautiful Extras available in USA / UK, as is their habit lately!??

... Honestly, I hope not ...

...Also, there is another consideration, the edition expected out by us on June 19, for the Italian market, along with that of Germany, which will also Italian and which is scheduled for June 12 , will have a greater number of languages and subtitles, ergo necessarily the Encoding / Authoring will be inevitably different ...
...And my doubt is, the Italian Edition / Germany, will have all the Extras of the BD USA / UK!?
...And If yes , it is possible that given the number of Major Languages and Subtitles items that will be included in the BD (as they are in simple DD and then I do not think they weigh a lot) could increase the compression and necessarily decrease the bitrate during the encoding phase ?
...In the doubt, and to avoid the risk of losing the Extra, I got the UK edition (which by the way is found on the Amazon, about £ 10 ...), with the German/Italian edition , I could be of interest only to the presence of Sub in Italian, since there is a splendid Commentary available among the extras, always of course if they are available, or for me, if they will do a joke like that, if they can also keep for them...

…CONCLUSION:

…IT'S SUNSET BOULEVARD!!!!
…And more…IT'S SUNSET BOULEVARD – SCANNED AND RESTORED IN 4K!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
…With an ocean of EXTRA!!!!!!!!!

…Do you…

...SOME SCREEN, RIGHT TO HAVE AN IDEA...:

...Now, Again , (unfortunately, in this case ...) I was right, and I was right to take at his time in the UK edition (and European), with all the extra present, which I remember has the same BD of the USA Edition, except for German Italian Japanese etc audio and subtitles...

...While the German Italian edition (also here with us in Europe .......) and Japanese (exact same disc and cover, but without Extra ...) NOT have added, ALL the extras contained in the UK and USA editition.

...Honestly this time, I thought strongly mistaken, and that the "lords" of Paramount did not arrive in time ...

...instead and with my big surprise, they did all right, but this time they did more and the joke is doubly painful, because a few steps throw from Germany and Italy, England we had ALL the Extra, and Italians along with the Germans and the Japanese (although a bit further away) NO! .

... It takes a lot of courage, to do such a thing ...

...Here however, the back-cover of the Italian edition, which is absolutely identical to that of the edition UK-reviewed by me, with the "SMALL" difference, where on the right side there is the UK edition list Beautiful with all the extra present, here instead is dark and black the most absolute NOTHING ....

...Now I'm curious to see the REPORT edition Italian / German, just to see if at least they used a BD-50 GB, and especially if they have exploited them all, the 50-GB, and if so at least they we have a BD with the Opera Encoded in a very high bitrate, and then even better than the USA/UK Edition, although the latter two are already Perfect as is.

... Here The Italic (also German is the same...) back-cover, which shows the absence of the extra ... which are present in the U.S. and also in Edition UK (which I reviewed in) here in Europe ...:

.....Here are the Direct link to view the image in detail and in full screen, without scaling...:

...And right now ... I found out, that Paramount for the Italian and German Edition, EVEN did not use a BD-50 GB, but used a BD-25 GB!! ...

So ... not only do NOT have any kind of EXTRA, but we also have a much lower bitrate Compared to the Edition USA / UK!

Here is the Link to the ... Review of German BD on Cinefacts.DE, where the review clearly shows that it was used as a BD-25 GB ...........:

Medientyp: BD 25

...SHAME ON YOU PARAMOUNT !!!!!!....SHAME ON YOU !!!!!

... In any case, if any of you could post Full Report mapping and bitrate on the BD German / Italian Edition , I would be eternally grateful ! ! !

I can confirm that the Italian BD is NOT a BD 25 at all. The film itself takes 29.954.426.880 against the 29.548.529.664 bytes of the American disc...

Regards.

...IMPORTANT UPDATE...:

Hello .... Dan, thank you so much for the all-important message!!

...In fact, seemed me strange, since in fact it was the first time that Paramount would use a BD-25, among other things, the video track, as I hypothesized the beginning, even if a little, is even slightly more full-bodied the UK / USA, so now things change at all and the Purchasing is super REQUIRED!!

...Sincerely, at this point, I wonder why it has signaled cinefacts.DE BD-25-GB, I doubt even that has actually reviewed the transfer in question, as with a BD-50, all the Absurdities he writes in his review does not have no sense ...

... In any case, given that the error was mine, I apologize to ALL, since I reported a Very Serious Incorrect Information ...

...As a result ... never, I will trust Cinefacts.DE, so to closed eyes ...

...Here ... in each case, the Report complete with mapping, inherent to Edition ITA / DE , that is EXACTLY THE SAME (of course) to the USA/UK Edition ...:
