The January 6 assault on the US Capitol, considered the worst attack on democracy since the Civil War, will be the subject of a feature film scripted and to be directed by Billy Ray as his follow up to the highly rated Showtime miniseries The Comey Rule. Joining him on J6 is Adam McKay, who is in the Oscar hunt now for Don’t Look Up. McKay will produce along with Todd Schulman, Josh McLaughlin, Cullen Hoback and Shane Salerno, latter of whom was exec producer on the Jeff Daniel-Brendan Gleeson-starrer The Comey Rule. Deadline has confirmed that the script will be shopped to studios and streamers imminently, and that conversations with equity financiers have already begun. [+]

I am guessing this is going to be fast-tracked into production for a possible release in late October so it can influence the mid-term elections - much like Borat was for 2020 (though that was a satire).

They will be under enormous pressure to deliver it before the election because otherwise Twitter would be like - why did you bother.

I also imagine this could become the instant best picture front-runner if it is confirmed it is coming out this year.

I really liked Breach, haven’t checked out The Comey Rule, but I like Billy Ray. So I’ll check this out.

Makes sense to me since it's one faction of the country vs. another. It may not have ended in the same sort of bloodshed, but it could have led to so much worse.

Billy Ray as the director is exciting, Adam McKay, not so much.

Saw a tweet saying how S. Craig Zahler should do this film. Honestly, that's something I'd like to see. Otherwise, I'm a bit reserved for this one.
