How do you perform the Wizard of Oz - Pink Floyd trick with a modern home theater?
I have a sony 52w5100 tv / Denon 1910 receiver / oppo 83 blu-ray player / Sony blu-ray player / everything connected with hdmi I want to show my wife in the best quality as possible any suggestions? Start the cd on the 3rd roar right? |

The Pink Floyd album plays in sync with the film almost perfectly and the song lyrics are pretty eerie considering what is happening on screen at the same time that they are sung. I've heard that it really helps to be stoned/drunk when doing it though, so....
![]() To do it you need to mute the film and blare the Pink Floyd album starting at a very specific spot of the studio intro (can't remember specifics at the moment though). |

Yeah this trick is called... the Dark Side of Oz. I'm pretty sure it's the 3rd Roar. I think you can Google the instructions. Good Luck. I've done it myself. It's been a while though. And you shouldn't need to "Enlighten Yourself".
Enjoy! ![]() |

Ugh, I can't stand Pink Floyd.
What is so complicated about doing this with a modern setup? My Onkyo 705 from 2007 can simultaneously show video from one input while playing audio from the CD input. It shouldn't be any different from how you did the "trick" before. |

How do you do it on a Denon 1910?

Well, with the Onkyo, if you have it on an input like DVD or CAB/SAT, you can select the CD input without having to switch video inputs. The receiver automatically knows that the CD input is audio only, allowing you to watch video, but have a different audio source.
And that's with a 6 year old receiver. I currently use a Denon 1613 but I haven't tried listening to music while watching something else. Hopefully your receiver is smart enough to switch audio without switching video. Last edited by SlmShdy1; 07-14-2013 at 02:12 AM. |
