United Kingdom Burning Plain - High Fliers release

This is currently going very cheap on Amazon.co.uk, is this release comparable to the US one by Magnolia?

If not, what are the differences and what is the better version?

cheers

I decided to risk getting the UK disc, expecting it to be the same as the US one, but unfortunately the UK disc is cropped to 1.78:1. Having seen frame grabs of the 2.35:1 US version, theres no way I bring myself to watch a cropped version.

I just cant understand why any distribution company would decided to crop a film in this way. I will be avoiding "high fliers" output in future.

This is the last time I buy a disc without seeing a review first.

Actually it isn't cropped. It was shot in the camera at 1.78 (or possibly 1.85) and matted to 2.35 for theatrical showings. So on the UK BD, you're actually seeing more image, not less.

All the same, you're right to reject any BD that doesn't present a film in its intended OAR.

Missed this film for some reason and it just caught my eye as it's £3.99 @ HMV http://hmv.com/hmvweb/displayProduct...;-1&sku=992271

Sadly, no special features http://filmverdict.co.uk/bluray/theburningplain.html Interesting writer but I can take or leave some of those actors.

I'll go with the US Magnolia disc when I see it https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/The-B...y/8127/#Review as I like the look of the special features.

Having looked at both versions, I dont think thats true in this case. The UK release has definately been cropped from the 2.35:1 original. There is lots of information missing from the sides, and the height of the frame is the same.

Avoid the UK release.
