Default Rocco and His Brothers (1960) - July 10, 2018

Milestone Films have confirmed that they will be releasing Visconti's masterpiece on blu-ray.

A brand-new 4K restoration premiered at the Cannes Film Festival and it will be shown at Film Forum in NYC, October 9–29. Presumably, the blu-ray release will follow shortly after its theatrical re-release.

Wasn't that coming from Criterion from what I remember?
Hadn't they posted a photo where they were working on it, and people commented that it was from this film?

I was thinking the same thing. That facebook clipping isn't really them saying they are releasing it, it is rather vague, like the news is forthcoming.

It only speaks of a Film Forum release AKA theatrical release...nothing about Blu-ray or DVD on their Facebook either....

Rocco is on their Hulu channel? I didn't see it. I'm pretty sure Pro-B confirmed that Milestone will be distributing this themselves, and I do interpret that comment posted by Akijama to mean this as well.

This has been my most requested title for Criterion for some time so a little initial disappointment it's not coming from them. That said pretty excited this is releasing at all! Hopefully Milestone will handle it well.

While we're waiting for an official BD announcement...

Before and after the restoration clip. Plus, you can see below the brand-new poster for the upcoming US theatrical re-release that will also be used as the Blu-ray artwork, according to Milestone.

I am really looking forward to this-not only because of the restoration. Every time I tried to watch this off TCM broadcast, the bottom line of the ugly yellow subtitles would be cutoff.

I wonder if this film is good. I have never seen it!
And to my surprsise, seeing the clip above, I realised that a Greek actor is in it as well (Spyros Fokas).
Checking the imdb credits, also Katina Paxinou is in it.

Hello guys,

I had a chance to view the recent 4K restoration of Luchino Visconti's Rocco and His Brothers. It is magnificent. Granted there are no tweaks during the transition to Blu-ray, next year it should be one of the biggest releases in the U.S.

The old Italian DVD will probably be good to keep only for some of the supplemental features (if they are not included on the upcoming release) or nostalgic reasons. Hopefully, we will soon see similar restorations of The Damned and Death in Venice.

There are some really, really big projects coming up next year (one again with Claudia Cardinale).

4K RESTORATION COMING SOON TO BLU-RAY IN AMERICA

I also got a chance to see it a few weeks ago. A truly stunning transfer. Alain Delon is gorgeousness incarnate.

I've been waiting for Milestone's release but the Eureka Blu-ray is currently on sale at the extremely tempting price of £7.99. Is it a given the Milestone will look better?

The Eureka disc definitely had filtering, but it looks to my inexpert eyes that it was done at the restoration level not the disc encoding level - so I doubt a Milestone release would improve upon it. Its a shame, because the restoration looks otherwise good - just flat, and lacking depth with blacks problematic.
