Yes. If the movie is region free it will play on a Region A player.

Yes, region free blus should work on all Blu players

A lot of Blu-rays released in the US are actually region free as well

Just a tip in case you want more imports in the future - Any imports currently being sold on Amazon.com will play in your North American player, which is nice.

If you buy directly from Amazon.co.uk or another international site, you should check that the release is not region locked first.

They do indeed, my good man. The system is capable of playing Blu-rays as well as DVD's and CD's.

Be sure to read Blu-Ray.com reviews of discs to make sure that not only are the discs region free, but that there is no PAL content on the disc, as PAL content will not play in US players. As the movies are in HD, you're always safe as far as the feature presentation, but extras are often in HD. There can also occasionally be SD PAL trailers before the main menu, although that doesn't seem to happen too often anymore.

Corrected. Though the U.S. PS3 won't play PAL content, many non-PS3 U.S. BD players will if properly configured.

(Edit: You also should be careful with foreign BDs that have 1080i50 content, such the UK editions of most BBC titles; those won't play in U.S. PS3s either.)

Why did you revive a four-year-old thread?

"Region free" means no restrictions anywhere.

The man hasn't been active since 2010. I say good sir, do get that monocle re-adjusted! It's simply unbecoming of a true gentleman to fail as much as you do.

Forgive me, old sport - I was under the impression that the man could make a resurgence and it is in our best interests to keep him at bay should he indeed appear once more.

yeah but there are/were issues with PAL movies not working 100% right in North America as mentioned above. I think though if it is something big like Doctor Who, the studio is aware and corrects it.

if it is a US movie/show - Twilight Zone, Superman set, etc - then you are pretty safe when it is region free. I have 4 seasons of Twilight Zone and my PS3 loves them.

Now I am embarrassed! This is the first time in my tenure hear at BD.com (going back 6 years) that I didn't notice a necrothreading situation. What makes it worse is that I responded within the necrothread with a genuine and legitimately well intentioned response.

:facepalm to myself:

If you have a UK, HK, Australian ps3 it will play anything region free. If you have a us or Japanese ps3 it won't play any 1080i 60 region free material or anything that has 1080i 60 in the load sequence.
