The UK branch of Warner Brothers has officially announced and detailed its upcoming Blu-ray release of acclaimed director Olivier Dahan's Grace of Monaco (2013), starring starring Nicole Kidman, Paz Vega, Tim Roth, André Penvern, Frank Langella, Jeanne Balibar, Parker Posey, and Milo Ventimiglia. The release will be available for purchase October 13th.

Official synopsis: Director Olivier Dahan (La Vie en Rose, Ghost River) creates a stunning portrayal of cinematic legend Grace Kelly in this sweeping romantic tale starring Golden Globe winner Nicole Kidman (Moulin Rouge!, The Others) as the incredible and flawless Princess.

Set in 1962, six years after her celebrated 'Wedding of the Century', Grace of Monaco is an intimate snapshot of a year in the life of the twentieth century's most iconic Princess - Grace Kelly - as she strives to reconcile her past and her present. Grace yearns for a return to the big screen but in order to do so must juggle this with her newfound role as a mother of two, monarch of a European principality and wife to Prince Ranier III.

When Alfred Hitchcock offers her the chance to return to Hollywood to play the role of Marnie in his next film, France is also threatening to annex Monaco, the tiny principality where she became the Princess. Grace finds herself plunged into a personal crisis as she is forced to choose between her celebrated status as a movie star, globally loved and adored, or accept that she will never act again, embrace her new role and her new identity, her duty to her husband, her children, and the world's second smallest country that has now become her home.

Having hooted our way through the genuinely hilarious DIANA, my gf and I sat down prepared for another camp classic with GRACE OF MONACO.

To our surprise (and slight disappointment), GRACE OF MONACO isn't anywhere near the cinematic pile-up that DIANA was. That film had pretty much nothing to recommend it, whereas GRACE is at least rather beautifully shot in nice locations and well-acted in general. It's not exactly a good film - there's a lot of laughable contrivance involved to make a compelling story of the true events and the underlying politics are troublesome - but we ended up watching it all in relative silence.

I'm not going so far as to recommend it but it's a decent enough watch: Seen on a flight, in a hotel room or even on a hungover Sunday, it's a mildly pleasurable bit of fluff, and not as awful as the reviews make out.

Is the blu Ray really region free? Will it play in players sold in the USA? I'm asking as I would like to buy this. USA is airing the movie May 25th on the Lifetime Channel. So for now there is no word if or when a blu Ray is being released in the USA.

I just bought this Blu-ray and that's why I got into this thread until now. There was no USA release for this movie, but you can find releases available for region A from Canada, Mexico and Brazil.

Be aware the film had numerous different cuts.

The US TV cut was different from the UK theatrical cut, and I believe there was a third cut in another territory.
