The Quest Blu-ray Pre-order

As part of its 100th Anniversary this year, Universal Studios Home Entertainment will offer re-issues of catalog titles, and the Quest Blu-ray will arrive in the March wave. Action icon Jean-Claude Van Damme (Universal Soldier) makes his directorial debut with this thriller about Chris Dubois (Van Damme), a scheming criminal who flees the police in 1920's New York City, travels to Tibet, and then finds himself enrolled in a mysterious, "winner-take-all" martial arts tournament.

Working alongside Van Damme in the supporting cast are Roger Moore (For Your Eyes Only), James Remar (The Warriors), and Jack McGee (The Fighter).

Universal's Blu-ray presents the film in its 2.39:1 original aspect ratio with a 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio track. Besides the studio's My Scenes functionality device, no further bonus supplements have been listed.

As indicated in that list posted earlier of the movies that Universal is going to release on blu-ray this year, the pre-order for Van Damme's The Quest just went up on Amazon with a March 27th release date.


I was pretty surprised to see that Universal was going to release The Quest on Blu-ray. Now that Van Damme will be appearing in The Expendables 2, hopefully Universal, along with the other studios, will release more classic Van Dammage on Blu-ray

Well, Universal already released Street Fighter, so it's about time they released a relatively decent Van Damme film... even if it is a rehash of Bloodsport

Now, they just need to release the best Universal Van Damme film, Hard Target, and I'll be quite happy Oh, and preferably the "unrated" international cut. Might not be the workprint, but it's still a step up from the US R-rated cut.

I second that, Chris. VanDamme was on a roll, there.

We've actually had The Order and Derailed released on Blu here in Europe. Not VanDamme at his peak, but it's kept me hydrated through the drought.

It looks like Universal got the rights to this film before Criterion could get their hands on it! Oh well. I was looking forward to a Criterion version of Van Damme's THE QUEST.

No, it was this list posted by someone in the Criterion Forum over a month ago. Plenty of the titles that showed up on the list have already been announced, so it 's probably valid.

Agreed Of course, they'll probably never officially release it Then again, can anyone name more than 10 DVD/blu-ray releases that actually had a workprint version of a film as an extra? Blade Runner and Highlander Endgame are two that leap to mind, and that's about it at the moment. Most workprints tend to surface via bootleg, as was the case with Hard Target... which I still have on VHS, and REALLY should transfer to DVD before something happens to it!

As for The Quest, my dad has always made fun of the last fight which starts off painfully one sided, then out of nowhere, Van Damme starts to get the upper hand

yes he was.. I'm waiting for Sudden Death, Double Impact, Death Warrant, and Lionheart to complete my JCVD collection
