I always find it interesting when fictional characters in a movie are seen watching fictional characters in a movie. It's sort of like a mirror reflecting a mirror. Some examples:
12 Monkeys -- Characters watch Hitchcock's Vertigo in a theater. Brazil -- Everyone seems to watch the Marx Bros. in Horse Feathers on TV. Cape Fear (1991) -- Max Cady annoys family trying to enjoy Problem Child in a theater. Donnie Darko -- Characters watch Evil Dead in one scene. Gremlins -- Both Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1956) and To Please a Lady (1950) are seen on TV. The Player -- Italian Neo-realist masterpiece The Bicycle Thief is seen by protagonist in one scene. The Shining -- Summer of '42 is briefly seen on TV. Any others? |

When I first saw this thread, I immediately thought of "Inglourious Basterds," with the "Pride of the Nation" film being played in the cinema. The "PotN" movie itself is a special feature on the disc, and it's quite amusing.

White Zombie is briefly shown on a tv in The Devil's Rejects.
...also Gremlins was mentioned in the OP but it wasn't mentioned that all the Gremlins are watching Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs in the movie theater. ![]() |

"The Departed"
What was the name of that flick playing while Matt Damon and Jack Nicholson were in the theatre discussing how Matt needs to find himself on various levels. ![]() "Throw Mama From the Train" -inspired by and has a cut from Hitchcock's "Strangers on a Train" |

And how about when a character enacts a scene from another movie with someone that played a different role in that movie!
![]() Like in "Analyze This" when Billy Crystal's character dreams the Godfather scene where the Godfather is shot, with Billy Crystal playing the Godfather and Robert DeNiro playing Fredo. Never fails to crack me up when DeNiro realizes he was Fredo when Crystal is retelling the dream. Talk about mirrors, funny house mirrors here, with the man who played the young Vito Corleone also reprising the role of his inept son that cannot save himself from being shot! Mind boggling. ![]() |
