USA Evil Dead Trap 2 (1992) - September 13, 2022

Unearthed Films will be releasing the Japanese horror film Evil Dead Trap 2 on Blu-ray on September 13th.

Quote:
A killer is on the loose in Japan. Young women are being horribly mutilated. Aki, a young woman who works as a film projectionist, is haunted by a childlike ghost. Her girlfriend Emi is a TV news reporter covering the horrible mutilations. Emi introduces Aki to Kurahashi, a married man with a haunted past. Everyone involved has a dark secret and something evil is taking control of them. They are pawns in a game being played by forces beyond their understanding. This eerie descent into madness takes us on a journey into the abyss and the terrible truth is finally revealed!

I was about to spend a huge amount on the Japanese release too. I shall wait now!

When I saw this movie years ago I was a bit disappointed by comparison to the first Evil Dead Trap, which I loved... but still, EDT2 has a nice, dirty atmosphere that I found enjoyable and kind of fascinating. I'll be buying this and looking forward to a re-watch.

Does this continue the events of the first EDT film or is it related in any way? Or is this more of a, in name only, using similar concepts as the original, Sequel with no direct involvement of what happened in part 1, Sequel?

I'm down for grabbing this but I've never seen it before and truth be told, need to revisit the first EDT as I can remember very little about it at the moment.

No connection, just in the spirit of the first.

They're not related story wise. Different director and writer.

The third is the same team as the original, but I don't think there's a good print available. Unearthed films also has not so much as mentioned it I believe.

Without any spoilers, I think there's a loose link between the two. Not story wise but thematically. EDT2 has the sub title ''Hideki''. Hideki is also a name you'll hear in the first EDT. They are not the same Hideki, but I think they have some similarities, IIRC. I don't want to go too much into it though, since I need to rewatch it, haven't seen it in years, and also, I don't want to go in spoilers territory.

So at best a very, very loose connection, if any at all. Thanks for filing me in folks.

I mentioned this at the Unearthed Films thread but this is now available to preorder on several places, including Diabolik and Amazon!
