Default What's Next for 'The Elder Scrolls'

Having been replaying Oblivion I got to thinking, What's next for The Elder Scrolls? I know that Elder Scrolls Online is coming but that's clearly not in the MAIN series. So what's next for the epic RPG series? Could an Elder Scrolls VI be in the future? And if so where would they go next? Personally I'd love for them to return to the setting of Oblivion and see what's come of the world there after the events depicted in setting up Skyrim.

There will be another, it will be years away. ESO is where the fovus will be for quite some time and expect bethesda to do something like fallout 4 or a new ip before they do another elder scrolls game.

Yup, elder scrolls 6 will come to ps4/x1. And it'll be another 4-5 years, minimum.

4-5 years? You mean 4-5 years since the release of Skyrim or 4-5 years from today?

Another 4-5 years from today. The team is currently hard at work on fallout 4. It takes them a minimum of 3 years to develop their games. So, and other year or two for fallout, then 3 years for elder scrolls.

You should probably post this in the PS4 forum. You will likely get a LOT more discussion there.

I agree. Still can't get over how crazy that is though. The PS4 has a fraction of the install base as the PS3, but you'd think last gen is already dead based on the discussion and marketing. The used market for PS3 games also feels like it's all but dried up.

Remember Skyrim cam out in 2011. There next release is likely to be next year (more then 4 years would be starting to get silly). So another three years at most after that, I can't see them being allowed to go much longer then that.

and pc. I only say that as playing and es game on a console is an extremely sub par experience compared to what differences usually exist (and the number of problems bethesda are notorious for not fixing).

I still play my pc games from the early 90's and my old console games as well. I only revisit favourites though. The ps3 has many of those and thus I will have a ps3 for a very long time (I will likely buy a backup when the price goes down a bit more as well). With that being said, the time of the ps3 is over, the focus for both sony and developers is on next gen. This is the last year where the ps3 will have strong support, after which I expect support to quickly decrease (As it did for the ps2 etc).

Oh I understand developers focusing on the new gen. That's how it should be IMO. It's just astonishing how quickly consumer interest seems to have faded, as evidenced by the almost scarcity of posts here - the PS3 forum feels like the Xbox forum suddenly. I'm also surprised at how quickly retailers turned their attention to promoting the new gen, if most of their sells are still being made for PS3/360s. It didn't/doesn't work that way for movies - even today Target and Walmart typically promotes dvd more than BD. But as soon as the new gens came out, before actually, store fliers and other marketing was all about the new gen, as if the PS3/360 no longer mattered or was worth advertising.

In terms of sales, last gen was about two years to long and saw the console market slump as the pc market grew rapidly. People where wanting something new and consoles where not providing that. Hence now they are, it is not uprising to see such sales and a change in focus. I really do hope we return to seeing new consoles every five years, with how quickly tech moves any more then that isn't a good option. So no, I can't see why one would be astonished at how quickly people have been moving over.
