The Seiki Sr212s player sold at Sears and Kmart is region free for blu ray and dvd and costs $50 or less. They have reconditioned ones on the Sears outlet site for as little as $35. But you may be able to still find it in stores. They have had them in stock for about 6 months now but seem to be discontinuing.

I live in the UK and i recently bought a TOSHIBA BDX1100 and upgraded the firmware using the Australian firmware and its all regions now, i think Toshiba seem to be the best bet for cheap ALL Region Firmware hacks.

USA Region Free Blu-ray player

I've owned a Sherwood BDP-5004 for several years now. Only issue I found is that it get hot if you have another piece of equipment under it. Since I have it sitting on its own, I have not had the issue.

Do they play region free out of the box or do they have to be hacked or updated?

According to the chart and description their region free out of the box.
Just click on the region free players on the left and it will show you what they have.

Ugh, ordered that same one from them and It came in the mail today, was really upset that it didn't include the remote control to switch the regions. Tried to call them up, but seems like they are closed at this time. Hoping they send me one.

Sorry to hear that, mine did come w/the remote.

They seem to be very nice, & I think when you call them up(I think they are on central time), they should get you squared away!

Some of these players come with the option of 110-220 volts, how necessary would that option be? Is it worth it to get it?

I've been using my PS3 as my primary Blu-ray player but I have intentions on finally picking up a region-free BR player sometime this year. Hopefully next month.

I've owned 3 Region-Free DVD players in the past and they can be hit or miss. I.E. The first player I owned, had a washed out looking image and had to be returned.

Currently I'm using my desktops internal DVD drive for non-region 0/1 discs. VLC eliminates the need of DVD43 or AnyDVD and I've had zero problems using VLC for DVD playback. It's played every DVD I tossed at it. I also tinkered around with the settings and attempted to get it to successfully open Blu-Ray's but it's just too buggy and complicated. I don't want the hassle.

Any recommendations? My budget is $200
Also, I checked on Amazon for the Toshiba BDX1300 and according to the customers reviews, that player will only handle Region-A Blu-ray discs but ALL DVDS.

I'm aiming toward this model.
I was somewhat skeptical considering there's no reviews listed but I did quick search on Amazon and found that the player was given 4/5 stars (38 reviews).

I might just pick up an extra region free player for "just in case".
