Default National Lampoons Christmas Vacation!

Ok, I was browsing Ebay and saw that this find film is on BD! I think I am now stoked - well at least until I read the Amazon reviews.

Does anyone own this film on BD and can give me a true to heart review? Is it worth it? Or is my DVD version just as good? Would love to see this film in HD but not if i'ts marinaly better than what I have now...

Man oh man.. this would have been an excellent HD film. So sad..

Here is the Amazon link..

those reviews have pretty much nailed it on the head. sometimes it looks good, mostly average, other times poor. much depends on the size of your screen. on 120" front projection display, it had these qualities.

don't think it had much to do with the transfer, just the source needed restoration.

it's definately a step up from the DVD, but how much difference you'll notice is hard to say. varies from person to person. if possible, rent first.

I rented this from Netflix. Not only does it look bad, but it has definitely aged and not well either.

Really?

I know these types of movies show their age.. more so as the years progress. However, is it just that or is it the fact that it was a bad BD transfer (no cleanup)?

It's both, imo. When I say it aged badly, I mean the comedic content is not "gold" like it was when I saw it as a kid.

I bought NLCV from Amazon just before Christmas 2006 fully knowing that the PQ wasn't that good. That being said, it looks a helluva lot better than my SD version on my HDTV.

I think though, Warner should've given this classic a full restoration.

Yup Region Free just like every Warner Brothers release. And as a side note Amazon is usually wrong when they put the region on the movies.

thanx for the tip.

does anyone know if the 20th anniversary collector's edit is any different from the 2006 released?

BTW @axelmusic.com, released 2006 is RF, but the collector package is marked as Region A...confusing

I've had this movie on hd dvd (exact same transfer)for a few years now. i can say the alot of scenes are really soft and some just look out of focus. Also the centre channel audio is very low. I was going to upgrade to the new specail edition Blu ray that just came out but found out it is the exact same tranfer.
Over all it is the best it has ever looked. but still one of the worst high def movies in my collection.

It's going to be 5.99 on dvd on Amazon in a few and I was wondering if I should jump on that or go for the Blu Ray?

Just I've heard such bad things about the Blu Ray it's making me wonder if I should just get the DVD since it will be on sale. Thoughts?

Get the blu.

I have the first one that came out on blu and I also picked up the "tin" version. The ultimate collectors edition or whatever it's called. Comes with a hat, coasters, snow, pin, moose mug (mini) and something else. Worth the price. Picture is really good too. Much better than DVD. Then again, I own the laser disc and the two dvd versions of the film. Also the soundtrack. Lol.

I love NLCV!

I bought it and took a look at a few key scenes...

For an older comedy it looks great.

I would say 3.5/5... it isn't terrible at all.
