My wife and are getting the 80" Sharp Aquos 3D LED tv this fall and I was wondering if anyone had one and could tell me how they like it? It looks great in store and the reviews I've read everywhere suggest it's fantastic.
How is the 3D on it? Is there anything you don't like etc? |

I'm not a member there, I'll check them out though, thanks!
Planning to get the TV one way or the other, all the research we've done says it's the right one for us. We have a 73" Mitsubishi DLP currently and while we love it, we know that the tech is pretty outdated and we love 3D movies so this bigger, better one seems perfect for us. |

Well, like everything else there are those who love it and those who seem to think I should go smaller and more expensive.
I'm locked in on the Sharp though, the 80" quattron aquos 3D. We hope to have it by November (alongside the Xbox one). Thankfully we started buying the movies before we even had the smaller 3D tv we have now in our living room so we'll have plenty of quality 3D with which to break in the big boy! I hate waiting... |

Not in a million years, man. Family means more to me than anything.
I've just seen the Vizio 80" and I have to say now I'm leaning towards it. Reviews are great (several even say it's got better picture than the Sharp) and comes with 4 sets of 3D glasses. Passive 3D but from what I saw I would not mind in the least. |

I have 70le847u and although its not a bad TV by any means, I have a huge gripe with it. This yellow subpixel that Sharp sells you on is not something you can turn on or off. That might not be a big deal until you decide you want to borrow someones WOW disc or spend your own money on a calibration disc only to have it provide no real benefit since the color/tint menu is useless on this set. This may not be a deal breaker for you but considering that I cannot even calibrate game mode without having to spend 300 dollars for a colorimeter or to have someone do an isf calibration is a pretty big let down. The only mode that you can change the color gamut is Movie, which again is fine if you want to use just ONE mode for everything. I will tell you if you game at all, not even competitively and not even FPS that you cannot play in anything other than game mode. Heres what I have noticed about this TV being that I am a member of AVSforum: the people with the expensive equipment to calibrate this set will tell you it is one of the most beautiful pictures after good calibration, those of us poor people who want to just throw a disc in and change contrast, brightness, and color/tint to get a more accurate picture are doomed to not be able to. My Sony in my bedroom looks better with 4 adjustments then my Sharp does out of the box which is pretty much what you will be limited to unless you plan on spending an additional 300 minimum for equipment or a professional calibration. Obviously the proper equipment and calibration service would is far superior to a disc and blue filter but most people (like myself) are not out to spend another 300 on a 3000 dollar set (what mine cost at the time) where you can spend 30 to adjust a cheaper set. If someone walked up to me on the street right now and offered me the Sony 70r550a for my set, I would do it without thinking twice. I am about simplicity, that is why the Quattron does not really appeal to me anymore, nor does active 3d anymore really. My whole point being is that if there was another alternative in your size and price range and you do not have a colorimeter, I would go with another brand. The subpixel is more of a curse than a blessing.
EDIT: Just realized you pulled the trigger on the Vizio. I think you dodged the bullet by not getting the Sharp. Id only recommend the Sharp to people who never use the controls in the menu or people who have all the equipment to utilize it properly. Keep us posted on the Vizio. I have been giving a lot of thought to selling my Sharp and going with the Sony. Id look into the Sony if the Vizio does not meet your expectations. It has pretty favorable reviews on its thread on AVSforum. Last edited by Brahby; 09-25-2013 at 06:25 PM. |
