Default Andrew House leaving after 27 years.

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/20...after-27-years

To be replaced by his deputy chief John Kodera.

Quote:
Andrew House is no longer the boss of PlayStation, or Sony Interactive Entertainment if you want to put it poshly. He hands the reins to his deputy, John Kodera, but will remain as director and chairman until the end of the year and then, it seems, toddle off.

It's not clear where House will toddle off to, nor what he'll do next. In a statement he expressed a desire to pursue new challenges. "PlayStation has been a huge part of my life for more than 20 years but with the business having achieved record-breaking success, now seemed to be the right time for me to pursue new challenges," he said.
Always seemed a well spoken and genuinely likeabke guy to me. Hopefully Kodera isn’t an expressionless suit.

I never understand why these corporate peeps leave at the height of success. Surely his monthly pay is something to salivate over.

I hope him leaving is genuinely to pursue new challenges and not the dreaded "creative differences".

He's staying with Sony and is being appointed Chairman

Guess we'll need an edit to the title then. So this means he's dealing more with the board and thus the stockholders and less with day to day decisions?

Depends on his role as Chairman. This is something similar to what happened with Ken Kutaragi and Kaz Hirai, they both became chairman after their time as President/CEO.

Weird that EG has yet to update their original story.

on a you tube channel the dude who runs it thinks it's cause the One X is coming out and i don't think that's it. as i said on there it could be that maybe he was forced to leave out the stupid ass decisions he was doing this past summer. or wait is that a promotion?

i really dunno how any of that works. but as much as i love Sony they have been making some stupid ass decisions as of late i hope the next guy does a far better job

Leaving PS Vita to the dust everywhere except Japan was definitely 1 of those bad decisions.

and i agree with that as well, that is such a great system that it's a shame they pulled a nintendo and didn't market it at all. yes i remember them doing a little bit of them before it came out but not so much after it came out.

so they have no one but themselves to blame for it failing like it did.much like the wii U failed as well for the exact same reason

The Vita was a great piece of hardware for it's time. However I think in the end the market spoke and people just didn't want it. Yes you can blame lack of marketing but honestly, I never saw an avalanche of 3DS advertising either. Maybe it was different in Japan but not in the states.

i think the 3DS is a great handheld and i have one myself. but i do see ads for the games for coming soon in magazines far more than i did for vita games. that was i think marketed

better. one thing that did hurt the vita was the memory card as we all know it cost to damn much. a really good one i mean and any sane person isn't going to pay $80 bucks or more for a memory card. that's just insane

bear in mind if it's not marketed right and people don't see that it's even out at all how can they even want it? i saw on a you tube video awhile back where they were talking about the Wii U and they were saying and i saw this on more than one video so it wasn't just one person's opinion or one video either.

where they said that a lot of people didn't even know the Wii U was even out either. now i am a gamer so i knew it was out but for those who are gamers like us and who once in a while buy a console or if they haven't paid attention to what's new in games in years

and they want to than they might not even know. how can you not know i dunno ? but it i think is possible. my mom isn't a gamer as it's not something she gives a damn about but to use her as an example she has no idea the one X is even coming out and unless i tell her she could care less unless i said i want her to get it for me for X-mas. though i'm buying one myself cause it's got games that Sony doesn't that's my reason.

The memory cards didn't help, but Japanese prices are way higher than America on pretty much everything and yet Vita was pretty successful there and so a high price on the games, system, and the memory cards did not phase them at all. Sure there's nothing on the system like Pokemon or Mario, but it definitely holds its own pretty well. No matter if the memory cards were the dealbreaker or not outside Japan, Sony can always fix that by letting 3rd party companies being able to make their own. It worked for PSP.

When companies make a game system, they have to treat it like it's their own child with love, care and respect. Not some child you wish was never born.

There was even mentions that they were blaming Smartphone games

i remember them blaming smartphones which to a degree is a little bit possible but than not everyone is a gamer. my mom again isn't a gamer but she loves to play games on her laptop. it just isn't games we like to play on here like Batman for example.

it's card games and bingo stupid shit like that. to each their own and so that's enough for some people i think. i think the vita has some great games on it but not enough that are suited for me i mean so far i think i only have 6 games for it and that's not that much

compared to the 3DS when i have i think about 20 games or so
