Spielbergs "Taken" Mini Series - Will This Ever Get Released on Blu-Ray?
I would love to get this amazing tv mini series on blu-ray. Has anyone heard anything whether or not this will be released on blu-ray some time in the future? It is on my must have list. I'm hoping because its a Spielberg production - that it might be given the upgrade to blu-ray that it deserves. |

It's old/young enough to have had it's post-production done in the early days of HD finishing, when it was creeping into the post-production industry. That being said, I'm not sure if it was finished in HD and if there was an HD master made, it would not be pleasant looking or acceptable by today's standards. At any rate, it has been unavailable to watch for many years and only got a one-and-done DVD release, so it's due for a revisit by modern audiences.

Would be great if it could be released in HD somewhere. A couple of years ago I wanted to watch my 20-year old DVD set, only to discover that most of the DVDs don't play properly anymore, even though they spent all of that time in their case and are scratch-free.

It turns out, it depends on a number of things, including how they're stored (vertically vs horizontally - in a plastic only case vs some sort of paper based case) Here's the site: Here's the TLDR table with their information. Table 2: the relative stability of optical disc formats Optical disc formats Average longevity CD-R (phthalocyanine dye, gold metal layer) >100 years CD-R (phthalocyanine dye, silver alloy metal layer) 50 to 100 years DVD-R (gold metal layer) 50 to 100 years CD (read-only, such as an audio CD) 50 to 100 years CD-RW (erasable CD) 20 to 50 years BD-RE (erasable Blu-ray) 20 to 50 years DVD+R (silver alloy metal layer) 20 to 50 years CD-R (cyanine or azo dye, silver alloy metal layer) 20 to 50 years DVD+RW (erasable DVD) 20 to 50 years BD-R (non-dye, gold metal layer) 10 to 20 years DVD-R (silver alloy metal layer) 10 to 20 years DVD and BD (read-only, such as a DVD or Blu-ray movie) 10 to 20 years BD-R (dye or non-dye, single layer or dual layer) 5 to 10 years DVD-RW (erasable DVD) 5 to 10 years DVD+R DL (dual layer) 5 to 10 years From a canadian site revised in 2019 |

I'd love for it to come out on blu ray too. I don't remember if I ever bought the dvd - I'd like to think I own it, but it's been in a giant box of other dvd's since I started upgrading them to blu-ray......which have since been replaced with 4K discs.

Yeah, that is certainly disappointing if not entirely unexpected. I have actually ripped some old TV DVD sets of shows that were never released in HD to my media server (which is regularly backed up) to preserve them, but for some reason I missed this one.

I just found a promotional lanyard and ID card from “the Taken Experience” pop up events that were held in several cities in the lead up to the premiere.
The ID is actually a shaped cd-rom, about the size of a mini-CD but with two flat sides instead of being round. But I can’t put it into any of my drives because slot-loading drives cannot take in shaped discs. Did anyone get one of these all those years ago, and if so do you recall what was on it? I bet it was just some wallpapers, or a screensaver or something, but, I’m curious. |
