Sorry if this is the wrong forum to post this and also if this has already been discussed at length.
How do you guys fund your blu-ray movie purchases? Do you budget? Cut back on partying/alcoholism? Live in a box? Eat ramen every night? Or just straight up ballin Walter White style? Just wondering ![]() I myself do a little bit of all of the above mentioned. Also selling off my DVDs to offset costs of blu-rays. Thanks for your time! I'm pretty good with budgeting and don't spend much money on things other than "necessities" in my everyday life (food, clothes, gas, etc.). I cook almost all of my meals at home and don't have a habit of getting a coffee every morning, going out for lunch, or anything of that sort.
Blu-rays are really the only "unnecessary" thing I spend my money on and collecting them has been a fun hobby that I really enjoy. Unless I start spending so much that I can't pay my bills or something like that, I don't think it will turn out to be a problem in the long run. |

I offer to do the grocery shopping for elderly members of the community, then pile on the gift cards in my shopping cart and throw away the receipt so they're none the wiser.
...Just kidding. ![]() I set a budget for myself and buy almost exclusively from Best Buy (for the RZ points) and DVD Exchange (for the point system they have in place that grants $9.99 in store credit for filling up a punch card with purchases). That, and I just remind myself that during my bar-hopping days, I would easily spend $100 a night with absolutely nothing to show for it the next day. It really makes spending $$$ on blurays that I'll watch and own forever seem a lot more painless. ![]() |

A lot of my Blu-ray purchases to date have been funded by selling off my collection of 600+ DVDs while I upgrade my favorites. I bought a ton of Blu-rays quickly during my first three months of collecting them.
These days, I've leveled off somewhat and utilize money left over during two-week pay periods to buy Blu-rays. I'm a minimalist in most other regards, aside from my Blu-ray collecting and my running. I usually eat healthy on less than $10 a day, I do not drink alcohol, my truck is paid off, and I still rent an apartment. I even quit drinking Diet Coke a few months back and started drinking water instead to reserve extra cash for my hobbies (This was rough for a few days, but then life became pretty awesome.). This is not to say that I have not been overindulgent with my Blu-ray purchases, because I most certainly have. It's my only real vice these days, though. |

My fiancée and I both have good paying jobs, we have no kids (personally I don't want any). We don't rely on credit, everything we purchase is with our own money. If there ever is a time where we don't have the money for something we either save up or go without. Also I am in control of our finances, and am extremely good at budgeting. We still do enjoy plenty of other things as well, like going to restaurants, buying alcohol, going on holidays etc.
