Ahead of any official announcement, we have learned that Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment plans to release Ghosts of the Abyss, the James Cameron documentary on the RMS Titanic, on Disney Blu-ray 3D on April 17, just a couple of days after the centennial marking of the ship’s fate. Originally shot exclusively for IMAX 3D, the film has previously been released on DVD in 2D format, making this the first time the film will be available for 3D viewing in the home. In Ghosts of the Abyss – narrated by actor Bill Paxton — James Cameron leads a team of the world’s foremost historical and marine experts back to the site of his greatest inspiration — the legendary wreck of the RMS Titanic. During the voyage, you will explore inside the entire ship, deck by deck, room by room, encountering mysteries that have remained hidden for almost a century. Revolutionary underwater robots were designed and built solely for the purpose of allowing the explorers to peer deep into the remains of the once-great ship and bring those surreal and haunting images back to the surface world. There is no word on any bonus features, but the DVD edition came equipped with unseen footage, revealing interviews and more. |

I caught this in the theater in IMAX 3-D. It was impressive, but Cameron was still honing his stereoscopic skills and several shots were terribly mis-converged and headache inducing. Perhaps these will be cleaned up for the new release. |

Will be upgrading my DVD! I guess Disney is thinking there is a Titanic Blu-Ray coming out soon...
I wonder if James Cameron's Aliens of the Deep will come out soon as well. The theatrical version of it played okon the DVD, But there was a problem with the extended version on the DVD - at least my copy had a problem. |

Any thoughts on this dropping in price? I prefer to wait for those $20 sales at Best Buy for 3D films, though $25 wouldn't be bad. It's just this comes out the day I come home from vacation and I don't want to drop $31 while I'm simply traveling home from a major expense

I'll be holding onto my DVD as apparently the DVD is going OOP or has already, and they dropped one feature that was on the DVD, according to this review at DVDizzy (Ultimate Disney):
http://www.dvdizzy.com/ghostsoftheabyss.html Will still be getting the Blu-Ray though. |
