Default Foreign Films that you'd like CRITERION to release!

I haven't seen that many foreign films (in comparison to American Hollywood films) but here's a list that I would LOVE to have in Criterion Blurays:
(some of them, may have been already released, usually in European Blurays but without English subtitles unfortunately)

Sissi Trilogy (the picture quality in the German Blurays is excellent, but no English subtitles)
Cyrano (1990)
Indochine
La Reine Margot
Camile Claudel
Farewell to My Concubine
House of Flying Daggers
Tchaikovsky (1969)
The City of Lost children
Gandahar (animation) (by the way, why hasn't it released any animation film?)
Raise the Red Lantern

I'd also love to see House of Flying Daggers get the Criterion treatment. The current Blu-Ray sucks. I'd also consider City of Lost Children, and probably add Delicatessen to the mix (I heard that Blu-Ray also kinda sucks).

Others I can think of would be:

A Bittersweet Life
Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon
Come Drink With Me
Downfall
Funny Games (1997)
Hard Boiled (they had the rights once)
Hero
The Killer
(they had the rights once)
Memories of Murder
Mesrine (both parts in one set)
Tetsuo: The Iron Man (maybe even have all three movies in one set)
36th Chamber of Shaolin
The Wave

...and, just for laughs, I think it'd be awesome if Criterion would consider really crazy films like Riki-Oh: The Story of Ricky, and Tokyo Gore Police.

I'd love to see those four releases. It'd be a nice variety of releases!

By no means comprehensive

I would like (but almost certainly won't happen):

The Monkey King: Uproar In Heaven (animation, forgetaboutit)
A Touch of Zen
The Bird People in China

Upgrades:

The Cranes are Flying
L'Eclisse
The Spirit of the Beehive
The Hidden Fortress
Ikiru

Other stuff, no idea whether possible or likely:

The Tree of Wooden Clogs
The Emigrants
A Sunday in the Country
Night of the Shooting Stars
Children of Heaven

Not to mention the titles in my signature...

This has been released in a chinese Bluray, WITH English subtitles, but unfortunately they have significantly altered the colors, and the soundtrack (other voices, other music)

I could produce a list a mile long. Aside from "every Bergman, Kurosawa, and Ozu they can get their hands on", the following would be the highlights:

Autumn Moon (Clara Law)
Black Rain (Shohei Imamura)
Bullet in the Head (John Woo)
Celestial Clockwork (Fina Torres)
Centre Stage (Stanley Kwan)
City of Lost Children (Jean-Pierre Jeunet & Marc Caro)
Cold Fever (Friđrik Ţór Friđriksson)
Faraway, So Close! (Wim Wenders)
Farewell My Concubine (Chen Kaige)
The Fate of Lee Khan (King Hu)
Magic Hunter (Ildikó Enyedi)
The Mysterians (Ishirō Honda) -- hey, if they can do Godzilla...
The Mystery of Rampo (Kazuyoshi Okugama)
Nostalghia (Andrei Tarkovsky)
Pather Panchali / Aparajito / The World of Apu (Satyajit Ray)
Peking Opera Blues (Tsui Hark)
Pelle the Conqueror (Bille August)
Raise the Red Lantern (Zhang Yimou)
Shall We Dance (Masayuki Suo)
The Soong Sisters (Mabel Cheung)
Tampopo (Juzo Itami)
The Vertical Ray of the Sun (Tran Anh Hung)
The Wedding Banquet (Ang Lee)

And from television:

Bron/Broen [the original of The Bridge]
The Dekalog (Krzysztof Kieślowski)
The Master and Margarita (Vladimir Bortko)
Riget & Riget II (Lars von Trier)

Upgrades from previous Criterion DVDs:

Alphaville (Jean-Luc Godard)
Andrei Rublev (Andrei Tarkovsky)
L'avventura (Michelangelo Antonioni)
Europa (Lars von Trier)
Forbidden Games (René Clément)
Gate of Flesh (Seijin Suzuki)
The Human Condition (Masako Kobayashi)
Kwaidan (Masako Kobayashi)
M. Hulot's Holiday / Mon Oncle / Playtime / Trafic (Jacques Tati)
The Passion of Joan of Arc (Carl Theodor Dreyer)
Rififi (Jules Dassin)
The River (Jean Renoir) -- I know, not quite foreign-language, but...
Le Samouraď (Jean Pierre Melville)
Pickpocket (Robert Bresson)
Scenes from a Marriage (Ingmar Bergman)
Shoot the Piano Player (François Truffaut)
Ugetsu (Kenji Mizoguchi)
Vampyr (Carl Theodor Dreyer)

And the following boxed sets:

Carl Theodor Dreyer (Day of Wrath; Ordet; Gertrud)
Eisenstein: The Sound Years (Alexander Nevsky; Ivan the Terrible Parts I&II)
A Film Trilogy by Ingmar Bergman (Through a Glass Darkly; Winter Light; The Silence)
Pigs, Pimps & Prostitutes: 3 Films by Shohei Imamura (Pigs and Battleships; The Insect Woman; Intentions of Murder)
Rainer Werner Fassbender's The BRD Trilogy (The Marriage of Maria Braun; Veronika Voss; Lola)
Three Films by Hiroshi Teshigahara (Pitfall; Woman in the Dunes; The Face of Another)

Since IFC is releasing it theatrically (and has a deal with Criterion), a release with the big C is sure to happen.

Id like to see the following on Criterion blu-ray...

Alphaville (Godard)
Hail Mary (Godard)
Every Man For Himself (Godard)
Conquest (Fulci)
A Cat in the Brain (Fulci)
Don't Torture a Duckling (Fulci)

Obviously, I have my fanboyisms.

A possibility of happening:
-any and all of Wong Kar Wai's films not already in Criterion's collection
-any and all of Godard's films not already in the Criterion collection (released on blu)
-Lust, Caution
-Hiroshima Mon Amor

Not likely to happen:
-an uncut version of Malena
-the original cut of Cinema Paradiso

Wishlist:
-Želary
-Joyeux Noël
-House of Flying Daggers
-Goodbye Lenin!
-Camilla (the 1984 Argentinian movie)
-Sophie Scholl – The Final Days
-The Triplets of Belleville
-Walk on Water

Thanks for that. Never heard of Cohen but they seem pretty solid from the reviews on this site

Ah, yes, Marleen Gorris. Funny, I had been thinking that I left out of my list another of her films that I really like: Antonia's Line.
