Honestly The Craft wasn't that bad IMO. It had the janky encoding during the opening credits, but I thought like 95% of that transfer was very very nice.

But yeah, I'd say the worst of 2022 on 4K would be:

Fatal Attraction
Friday the 13th
Platoon
Saturday Night Fever
Trancers

I'm likely forgetting a few, but those are the ones that immediately come to mind. 48 Hrs. and Planes, Trains & Automobiles had problematic 4K releases as well but they're still upgrades over their BD counterparts so I'm on the fence with those lol.

I would vote for Scorpion with Two Tails but that's technically a 2023 release.

Real Genius was one of my favorite releases of the year, with one caveat. The original 2.0 audio sounded like a quickie scan of the optical track on a really beat up print. Pops and scratches galore. This is freakin' Sony. They could have done better.

Damn. Do you know if the Paramount Presents blu-ray also has DNR? I briefly considered getting it during the recent Amazon sale but passed on it because I knew there was a 4K UHD.

Goodness gracious. What a mess! Mill Creek brings Side Out to Blu-ray with a horrible 1080p transfer that challenges atrocious releases like The Freshman and Like Father Like Son for the title of "worst of the worst." Compression artifacts are presented in extreme density, defining the whole experience. Every element is little more than murky and chunky assault of compressed nastiness where every element -- faces, clothes, building, the beach -- are reduced to globs of digital morass. And when they are not, the wayward grain appears in full force with unnaturally sloppy, messy, and grossly processed output. This is a hideous image, and these complaints do not even touch on edge enhancement, poor detail and a general sense of softness, and terribly flat colors. Even the bright 90s tones which should leap off the screen are subdued and depressed, failing to offer more than cursory vitality and certainly no depth, nuance, or realism. Add in a fairly steady barrage of pops and speckles, and the image is practically unbearable beginning to end.

Prince and the Revolution Live was shot on video and should have been 720x480 anamorphic 4:3, or upscaled but unmolested SD to HD, with bitrate higher than was possible on DVD. Instead they used AI upscaling and sharpening on the Blu-ray to make the performers look like GoldenEye 64 characters and melted monsters and added fake grain on top. That disc is pure shit. Three audio tracks and it doesn't even have the original. You can hear additional sounds on the stereo track compared to the old DVD.

I also 3rd Side Out. I’ve stated this a few times now, but after viewing the Blu Ray, I watched my VHS and the VHS actually looked better in motion. Shocking transfer/release of a very fun movie.

The 2nd worst release to my eyes was 200 Cigarettes.
