Amazon's release date is now 12/31/13. Does that mean its been delayed indefinitely?

A sad comment from Hammer on their restoration blog a couple of weeks ago..

Re. StudioCanal: No plans for any Blu-ray releases beyond the seven titles already released.

No reasons given and no mention as to whether SC still will hold the rights to the titles they currently have but not looking good.

That does not sound good, makes me wonder if they did not sell as well as they expected.

That's such a shame. I was especially looking forward to this release. I still have this on pre-order in the hope that something happens with it, though.

Hammer had those seven from Studio Canal lined up, Frankenstein and the Monster from Hell and Captain Kronos I don't think are SC titles, same goes for The Mummy.

Other SC Hammer films are,

Frankenstein Created Woman
The Viking Queen
The Vengeance of She
Slave Girls
The Witches
Horror of Frankenstein
Scars Of Dracula
Lust for a Vampire
Blood from the Mummy's tomb
Demons of the Mind
Dr. Jeckyll and Sister Hyde
Straight on till morning
Fear in the Night
To the Devil, a Daughter

If I missed any someone please chime in.

Damn, I was really looking forward to The Witches on Blu-ray, it's one of my favorites from them. Originally Hammer had announced that 'over 30' films would be released on BD. So much for all that. Very sad.

Well lets hope they do materialise at some point , but it will be a bummer if the releases stop coming.

The restorations are continuing. They've mentioned that The Witches is being restored but no plans for a release at present. With the new deal in the US in place maybe some will appear there.

The Anolis releases in Germany have apparently been put back but are still coming, which includes FCW. Germany is probably a fairly good bet for more.

Sadly, I think they might have shot themselves in the foot a bit with SC after The Devil Rides Out. As popular as the Hammers can be, they're still niche and I imagine they lost some sales with that. I'm yet to buy one after cancelling the preorder and hoping to get it cheap really. Along with that, having to do a replacement programme for DPOD and the last two not exactly being top tier titles, it wouldn't surprise me if SC had second thoughts.

To be honest, their one remaining Dracula title and the two Frankensteins are probably the only ones with a potentially wider fan base than just core Hammer fans. I'd probably even have to think twice before buying the likes of Vengeance of She, Viking Queen and Slave Girls. I'd definitely go for the other 'non-franchise' titles such as Demons of the Mind and Straight On Till Morning though and it's a Shane to think we may not get that far.

What's the point of restorations without home video releases? I would think spending all that time and money simply for a few theatrical dates wouldn't be worth it.

I was thinking the same thing - not at least including the original version was a major mistake, and no doubt caused them much negative publicity and also grumbling among Hammer purists, who likely represent a larger portion of the home video audience than Hammer might have assumed, focused as they were on appealing to modern/younger audiences.

Such a shame. Studio Canal's restorations of Hammer films are gorgeous.

And they don't price gauge you like Lionsgate.

I think they all looked good with exception of Dracula - Prince of Darkness. While looking the best it ever has, could of been so much better without the noise reduction to mute the grain.

This is very sad news. I have copies of Quatermass and the Pit and The Devil rides out on blu-ray and not withstanding effects issues, both look absolutely spectacular, jaw-dropping at times for '60's films. Also had Frankenstein created Women on pre-order - Oh dear

Time for another studio to pick up the ball...

Streaming and television rights. That's where most of the money is today (unless you are releasing new million-dollar franchises of course). At least according to a friend of mine who sells rights for a minor European label.

There are also still other territories for home video to consider as well. It was an Anolis DVD release in Germany and there's also the new US deal hopefully. With a bit of luck most if not all will still appear somewhere.

I know. Lionsgate charge way, WAY too much and hardly drop in price. I got all my SC Hammer titles for 7-10 GBP which I'm happy with.

Haven't seen it due to the bad reviews it got but am still considering it.

Couldn't agree more. The transfers for both looked STUNNING. I have a question... Should I try and grab the remaining SC hammer titles I don't yet own? I've got Quatermass, The Devil Rides Out, Plague of Zombies & The Reptile. If they've lost the rights, these other ones will likely go OOP. I was just wondering if they're worth getting?

Hopefully someone can help

I'm not sure if they've lost the rights or perhaps it's just not financially viable for SC to release any more but anyway, although not a high tier film, The Mummy's Shroud looks great, as does Rasputin but there are sound issues on that. Personally I don't think it makes it anywhere near unwatchable.

Dracula Prince of Darkness still looks way ahead of previous versions. I'd bank on that getting released elsewhere. There's an Italian release but for some reason it's 1080i and is supposed to look worse.
