I'm a very big Mike Leigh fan and own all his feature films on Blu Ray.
Must admit that I found this film to be a bit of a letdown but it is a day one buy for me and something that I really want to revisit. Marianne Jean-Baptiste and Michelle Austin are both very good in the film. |

Any word on a StudioCanal UK Blu-Ray? I imagine that would have better encoding than the Decal release.

Some of them do, while some don't. I have no idea how which one gets chosen if it comes with a slip or not, but I think if the distributor is NEON, it's more likely to have a slip, especially if it did well commercially. The last one I got from Decal that came with a slip and wasn't released by NEON was God Is a Bullet. And as others stated, their quality is usually meh.

I'm shocked she wasn't nominated. She gave one of the best performances of 2024. Of the nominees, I'm rooting for Fernanda Torres, who was also pretty incredible in I'm Still Here. Demi Moore will probably win in any event.

The encoding is not great on the NA release, there's no commentary as is usually common for Mike Leigh, and even the packaging has a "blu ray" logo that looks like it was accidentally left there.
It is however, only $18 bucks currently and it's a great film. |

It's easy to predict Moore because she has the "narrative" and the SAG win, but Madison won BAFTA (which shares more voters with the AMPAS than SAG and is usually a solid indicator for lead winners, or at least lead actress; see also: Colman for THE FAVOURITE, McDormand for NOMADLAND, Stone for POOR THINGS; Yeoh is an obvious exception to the rule because she was in the Oscar sweeper that year) and is the face of the Best Picture frontrunner. Also, the fact that Indie Spirits gave MM Best Lead Performance in a gender-neutral category of ten nominees—including Moore—is a solid indicator because when Indie Spirits have Oscar nominated performances, they try to go for whichever performance has the highest chance of winning the Oscar. Yeoh won for EEAAO there too, and so did Culkin in Supporting for A REAL PAIN this year over, say, Clarence Maclin in what was very much an indie fave. So I think Madison has this in the bag, and rightfully. Anyway, the actual reason I came here to comment is I just got in my Blu-Ray of HARD TRUTHS and the audio track is only…wait for it…DTS-Dolby Digital 5.1! Not even DTS-HD or Dolby TrueHD?! I know it's very much a dialogue film but come on now. Edit: Per Brian Orndorf, it is fortunately a mere misprint. Guess I should've trusted my gut and waited for the StudioCanal UK release then, but this one was too good of a bargain on a new release to pass on. Ugh. FYI: Hard Truths has a 5.1 DTS-HD MA mix. And a 2.0 DVS track.
