Default new world war 2 shooter ?

I want a new WW2 online multiplayer shooter. Maybe something new, sandbox like. Other than battlefield though. Larger battles and with specific goals. Not just running around and making as much kills as possibles, or destroying an objective.

Like with some sort of a strategy. Like this;

- Large multiplayer maps, 40 vs 40 on PS4.
- Set during World War 2 (Japan vs USA, Soviet vs Nazi-Germany, etc.)
- Each game lasts at least 30 minutes (so not based on how many kills you get)
- There is a 5 - 10 minute ''set-up'' time prior to the launch of the game.
- The players are divided into separate groups, for example:
1) Artillery unit
2) At least 1 infantry unit
3) Air support unit (smallest unit of all)
4) Armored vehicles (tanks, IFV, etc, mechanics, etc.)
5) Possibly paratroopers
6) Saboteurs (only 1, max 2 per game, if he dies, he doesn't respawn as a saboteur, but at the back of the frontline with minor arms)
- The console then selects the top 3 players of each team. They get to plan the strategy and are labeled as ''generals''. The generals have only 1 live and have to be protected / sit at the back and lead their team towards victory.

Once the teams are divided into units and are appointed to a ''general'', they will see a list of objectives on their screen. For example; artillery units needs to support infantry unit, air support needs to destroy a bridge, etc.

It will be complicated and it won't be for your average Call of Duty player, but it would be something new!!!

last big ww2 shooter was call of duty world at war, like 5 years ago if I'm not mistaken

Only modern shooters since then, battlefield, call of duty, etc.

So a WW2 shooter would be a refreshing change actually...

I'm actually with you on this one.

I would like an old WW2 shooter just for nostalgias sake. The last WW2 shooter I owned was on the PS2, and the last one that I actually played was CoD 3 way back when the 360 launched.

MoH used to be amazing back in the good old days, since then nothings been that great WW2 wise on consoles.

I know right... I remember playing the very first Medal of Honor, it was released in 1999, I was around 6-8 years old when I first played it on the Playstation (1). I remember the opening with the real World War 2 footage, Adolf Hitler holding a speech, invasion of Poland, etc.

I also remember how exciting it was to play the game. I was always 'afraid' of the Germans in the long coats because they were harder to kill than the regular soldiers. I was always looking for a bazooka & the mission with the dogs (I believe that was an 'underground' mission with those mining carts).

Hahahaha, FOUND IT .

good old times

It was released by dreamworks, I just looked it up, but it looks like they haven't released a game since 2001? They did 2 Medal of Honor games, the one I posted and one year later ''MoH: Underground''.

I believe Dreamworks is Spielberg's studio. MoH was probably based on Saving Private Ryan.

I was sad when they stopped making ww2 shooters. Love the history aspect. I do like the modern ones just wish they could do both.

WW2 shooters have been done to death in the past and i remember a lot of people being being fed up of getting another WW2 shooter, however having said that I did enjoy CoD WaW( got platinum) and admittedly it would be good to see a nextgen WW2 on the new consoles so I will retract my previous comment

Even when people were complaining about WWII shooters there were far more modern shooters being pumped out so that never made sense to me. And I find WWII shooters are much more enjoyable. Modern weapons are boring as hell IMO. Also pretty sad that WWII shooters are based on real world events and yet have shown more originality than modern shooters which they could base on anything they want.

Wolfenstein The New World has Nazi's but obviously that is where the WWII link ends

Enemy Front is still supposed to be coming to current gen and PC next year. Would be smart to switch it to the next gen at this point. Especially when it is using CryEngine which the new systems will be able to handle better.

http://www.joystiq.com/2013/08/30/en...n-spring-2014/

PC still has stuff like Red Orchestra, Iron Front and not a shooter but Company of Heroes. So seems to be the better source of WWII even though RO2 and Iron Front were both letdowns.

Gearbox need to go back to a proper Band of Brothers WWII shooter. By far the best games they have made.

Such a shame the best kind of shooters to me got killed off by people that would whine about WWII and yet will buy the same COD game every year by the millions. None of those even slightly come close to COD + The UO Expansion or COD2 IMO. Hell I enjoyed COD3 more than the current COD games. Medal of Honor Airborne and BIA Hell's Highway > pretty much any modern shooter this gen for me. A game like MAG in WWII would be so nice As would a full proper WWII Battlefield instead of just Battlefield 1943. Would even take a WWII expansion for BF4 much like the Vietnam expansion for BFBC2 though.

The really stupid thing is Medal of Honor showed that there could still be a market for WWII shooters but got marked down as another modern shooter selling. There is a reason Medal of Honor is one of the very few shooters that did better on PS3 than Xbox 360 and it wasn't because of a poor 360 version. It was because a lot of people wanted Medal of Honor Frontline HD on PS3.

Guess it also didn't help that complete garbage like Turning Point and Hour of Victory came out and helped dig the WWII grave when it was in need of a good shooter.

Not a shooter but a new Saboteur would be nice too.

Exactly. And you actually learned something from World War 2 games, about the battle, Nazi researches, etc. going on.

I also like the 'vibe' of the WW2 games a lot more. It is dark, it feels classic/authentic. The warcry's, marches, songs they add are always brilliant. It also has more of a ''patriotic'' feeling, you want to win, you really want to defeat your enemy. Or if you're in the Axis team, you want to change the course of the battle.

The battles you you participate in, are almost always based on real battles and events. You recognize them.

That's what makes World War 2 shooters amazing.

Call of Duty after World at War is a big joke. With their ''20 kill streak = nuke'' rewards. It's just pathetic.

The single players are boring too, it's just the same thing over and over again. They don't even really bother about the single player anymore, the developers know that 95% of people buy the game to play the multiplayer version.

How is that better than the classic World War 2 shooters? Or even Battlefield 1943?

I also remember the old Call of Duty games always showed facts/quotes from people who lived during World War 2 in the loading menu. That too is gone.

It's funny how it never spread to anything else. I mean WWII movies have existed since WWII was still going on before video games were even a thing. Was anybody complaining about Band of Brothers not being about a modern war? Saving Private Ryan? Nope don't remember that. But a WWII game? BURN IT!!!!!! In fact I think you would be hard pressed to find a list of greatest war films, mini series or TV shows that isn't dominated by WWII. And with the non-WWII stuff you would be even more hard pressed for it to still be modern. Vietnam would have the next strongest showing probably. The Korean war not so much but it would probably top a lot of TV war show lists thanks to Mash at least. Yeah there would be some stuff like Black Hawk Down that would trickle into the lists and since there are not a lot of mini-series something like Generation Kill would (Not to discredit it since I really like it actually). Documentaries for that matter about any subject would have a strong WWII showing I am sure with the likes of The World At War.

Personally for me WWII would make it into a lot of my top lists regardless of subject material. 'Allo 'Allo! and Hogan's Heroes are in my top 10 TV shows of all time. Band of Brothers is in my top 10 mini-series of all time at the very top of that list. For that matter even though it was a letdown compared to BOB The Pacific would probably make that top 10 too. Downfall and Saving Private Ryan are in my top 10 movies of all time. Bruno Ganz performance in Downfall one of the top 10 acting performances too for that matter. Such a shame as funny as I find them that Downfall became known for the Hitler meme and not the movie itself. Honestly I think my whole 10 top documentaries would be WWII even though I do love nature documentaries too. Call of Duty with the United Offensive expansion would only trail Team Fortress Classic as my favorite multiplayer experience ever. And unlike TFC there was a damn good single player experience to go with it. Company of Heroes doesn't even have the slightest bit of competition as my favorite strategy game ever and that is even with some other WWII games making that top 10 like Order of War. And I could keep going on and on but I am sure the point was made by now.

I hate to say it because it is a tragic point in our history and I wish it never happened. But it makes for some damn good entertainment all while as you said you actually learn something. I remember back in school my social studies grades would be pretty mediocre because my brain would phase out learning about Canadian history and stuff. But when we got to WWII I was upright in my chair while my grades were making a complete 180. So yeah I might be blinded by my love for the subject material but I don't care. Give me more WWII shooters over any other shooters any day!

I'd like to see them go back and take a stab at a World War II shooter for this upcoming generation. I can't tell you how many times I played through Call of Duty 2 on Xbox 360...that game, at the time, mesmerized me in how awesome it was. Things like crawling through a trench and having tanks driving over the trench while your underneath it were the kinda awe-inspiring moments that completely immersed me into the game. It would be a trip to see what they could do with a WWII setting on the new hardware.

Exactly... I am also extremely interested in the subject. I have been ''studying'' World War 2 since I was 8 or 9 years old. I have stopped collecting World War 2 movies and documentaries for at least 2 years now, but war movies and WW2 documentaries still DOMINATE my collection, and I have bought hundreds of non-WW2 related movies and documentaries in the past 2 years. I have at least 500 WW2 related movies and documentaries, a lot of books, I visit a lot of WW2 related places (Normandy, the Ardennes, Hurtgen Forest, etc...).

World War 2 is an insane period in human history. Between 70-85 million people got killed in 5-6 years time.

Over 46,575 people died every day because of WW2.
That is;
- 1,941 killed per hour
- 33 killed per minute

The Syrian War has been going on for almost 3 years now, +/- 120,000 people have been killed so far. That is A HUGE NUMBER.

But during World War 2, it only took 3 days to reach that amount of casualties.... + 20,000 extra killed.

It's just insane how deadly that conflict was.

4.25% of the world population got killed during World War 2.

And people still complain about ''too many WW2 shooters'' ?

I think we will experience a conflict the same size or even greater during our lifetime, especially with how the world economy & politics is evolving. It is, sadly, just a matter of time. I am afraid it's just part of our human nature. It doesn't take much to start a devastating conflict, especially with world powers possessing nuclear weapons. It just takes 1 maniac...

I'm down for a WWII shooter for the PS4 and Xbox One. I really enjoyed COD World at War. Still have it and play it on occasion. I think it's the only Call of Duty game that has full campaign co-op. I played a ton of WAW campaign co-op. At the time, I was hoping that it would become a trend and every Call of Duty game would have campaign co-op.
