Default Collectors: Quality > Quantity?

Good morning all! I now have 800 Blu-ray in my collection:

http://invelos.com/dvdcollection.aspx/LettuceJUMP

And for a while I was always looking for deals and steals, just to improve my collection's size and wow factor.

Now I'm starting to look at my collection and see 50-75 movies that:
1) are bad movies
2) are good movies that do NOT have replay value

Do you guys have a similar feeling on the situation?
I'm considering unloading and selling those 50-75 movies because at some point it's like, okay I just want to keep the good ones that I love.

Who exactly are you trying to 'wow,' and why is that so important to you?

I had a similar experience with VHS tapes. (yes I am that old) One day I woke up with this huge collection of movies that were obsolete and worthless. I am not sure when Blu-rays will be obsolete but I have been through this cycle with both VHS and Dvds.

Now I try to only buy movies I will watch more than once and trade in the ones I don't like or won't watch again to get the most value I can.

So yes, Quality over quanity.

I look at it like this. Every movie I buy (and keep) will be worth nothing at some point. Will I regret not getting rid of "x" movie?

I never understood the quantity thing either. I've got a feeling there's a lot of members who just "buy movies to buy them" or "because they were on sale." To me, that's silly because you end up like the OP, with a large selection of garbage movies.

My rule is "buy what you like, not what you see on sale"

I always buy what I like or enjoy, or some movies that my family love.

I could not agree with you guys more!!!!!
The quantity wow thing happened to me. Some movies that were okay I saw on sale I'd purchase. Or movies I knew were essential to build a respectable collection. But somewhere I lost the direction of quality over quantity.
I guess it happens to all of us.

Quality.

Always Quality.

I always buy the most expensive edition, the one with the most special features, the nicest looking one, etc.

Quality. Quality. Quality.

That's why I won't pick up crap like Identity Thief or The Heat.

Always quality.

Nobody is interested in seeing a large collection of films, who cares? It's just plastic. Also buying for investment is pointless, as they don't retain their value.

I constantly purge from my collection, and will never allow it to grow beyond the confines of its shelving (which I reckon is around 400 - 450).

I only buy titles that I am going to watch repeatedly. It's really as simple as that. Of course, I always wait for the right price before buying said titles.

Sometimes I'm on the mood to watch crappy movies. I will not prune or try to make a better collection by removing movies. Never know when you want to see them again.

I've watched sharktopus and two headed shark attack but my copy of Lincoln and seventh seal are still waitin.

Given the amount of Blu-rays you have listed in your collection, where in the world do you find so much time?

And can I have some of it?

(Oh, and I say quality. Though at this point, is there any question? I'm hope to keep my collection below 300, so we'll see.)

So basically, no Melissa McCarthy movies. heh

I'm guilty of buying more than I probably should. It's an obsession that I justify to myself and others all the time. Still, I try to limit myself to movies I really enjoy.

My kids go to bed at around 7 p.m. and I don't go to bed until at least 10 or 11 so that gives me a few hours each night for movie watching and/or game playing.

I try to strike a balance. I like having a lot of Blus but that's because I have always liked having a lot of movies on hand. I will only buy movies I like, though. I rarely blind buy and only do for a good price and if I would have seen the movie in theaters but missed it. To me, it's about having a nice catalog of movies that I love, whether they're "quality" or not.
