Default We need a sequel to The Professional

One of my favorite films of all time...watched it last night for the first time on blu-ray.

I mean damn this movie is just calling out to the film gods for a sequel to be made. Some sequels are pointless money grabs that serve no thematic purpose whatsoever, but this isn't one of them.

Am I the only one who wants to see what Natalie Portman's character looks like 20 years later as a badass female assassin? And she's stated repeatedly that she really wants to reprise the role. There's even word that Luc Besson has already written a script for the sequel.

Unfortunately, the production company that owns the rights to the film seems to be a little butthurt that Besson formed his own production company and refuses to play ball.

This is freaking unacceptable to me.

What we need is public pressure and a lot of it.

...who's with me?!!!!

At the end of Leon, it appears Matilda has a shot at a normal life. Why make her a killer?

It could be another revenge flick. Mathilda could have grown up outside of the "family", but developed a close relationship with Tony who gave her Leon's money as an allowance for a few years before giving her the remaining amount when she comes of age(18, 21, graduating college or high school, whatever). Someone might kill Tony, and then Mathilda seeks revenge.

It's a pretty interesting idea.

Although it seems to rely on the notion that Tony was a good guy, which I'm not so sure that he was.

He was the one who betrayed Leon.

And I'm pretty sure that he had stolen most of his money as well.

That's why he wanted to keep Leon from changing--learning to read and such. As long as Leon was ignorant he could take advantage of him.

What's the point of having a sequel to a film about a professional assassin if Matilda is married with three kids and working as a dental assistant?

Any update to her story has to address the issue of her following Leon's path at some point, for some reason.

...she has demons that will never go away completely.

It would put a whole new spin on, "It's time for your cleaning!"

Or if she was a maid, they could call her "The Cleaning Lady."

Hit Girl was fun for 90 minutes. The last 15 minutes we were suppose to realise how messed up a 10-year-old killing people is.

Then they made a sequel.

Because Mathilda can't unsee what she has seen. And, to honour Leon's legacy as the best cleaner?

I've been saying that we should get a sequel for many years now. I would love to see Natalie Portman come back to the role after all of these years.

If they went ahead with a sequel... I'd watch it. Just saying.

I haven't sieved through every post on this thread to see if this was answered, and perhaps it was.

The 2011 film Colombiana was originally started as a sequel to Leon.

http://www.geeksofdoom.com/2011/08/3...e-professional

Quote:
Ten years ago we decided to make ‘Mathilda,’ which was the ‘Professional’ sequel, but we couldn’t do it because of the evolution of a lot of things – about Natalie [Portman], about [estranged distributor] Gaumont. Luc tried to do this movie again and again—he proposed it to me 12 years ago. But when we decided to change the script and to make another movie with a revenge story like ‘Mathilda,’ he had to give up everything about Mathilda.
Anyway, having said all of that, Colombiana was a joke. If all we would have gotten, or are going to get in the future, is something in the vain of Colombiana, then "No," I am not with you. Leave this one alone.

Really..

People have not heard of Hounddog...

Great film.

And no, you don't see the naughty bits. Powerful enough without it. Although, if it were French or Italian...

What exactly was Gary Oldman doing with his neck when he took his pills?

He would lean back and twist his neck and make a really disturbing, gurgling type sound as he swallowed? What the hell was that about?

...that's always bothered me.

PS...what kind of drug do you think those pills were? My guess was always amphetamines.

They are absolutely uppers, and if you've ... err ... ever done them in any sort of amount, you'd know what he was doing.
