Agree with you 100%. It not only helps you get around some of these TT releases being sold out, but for me being a horror fanatic it allows you to get your hands on overseas editions that are way cooler than their stateside ones. I picked up the UK Scanners steelbook release recently and its awesome

Reading the threads a common thing comes up in which somebody moans that a certain title is region locked and its not fair etc.
How many here are region free? I am from the UK and have always had an all region player and was wondering why a lot still don't? Is it cost? There is no PAL / NTSC problems as was the case with DVD and i personally think any serious film fan should be region free....opinions? |

Ebay has a bunch. Just make sure you get one with a PAL converter, sometimes the menu systems are in PAL even when the movie is in 1080p/24.

No.
Having a Region A Blu-ray player keeps me grounded. I spend a fortune on Blu-rays already, so only having Region A capability keeps me from spending an ungodly massive fortune. My Region A limitation is sort of like one of those plastic child safety gates that parents use to block certain hallways or stairways from toddler access. If I want to buy some cool film noir titles from Masters of Cinema, then I cannot do so, because that plastic safety gate is blocking me. If I want to order some cool Arrow titles, then I cannot do so, because that plastic safety gate is blocking me. And so on... |

I've been multi-region since the earliest days of DVD. Even though Blu-ray is far more import-friendly than DVD ever was, I've still gotta have the m/r option and have used a variety of methods for Blu-ray: expensive hardware mods, cheapy software mods, separate A and B players etc.
My current weapon of choice is a Panasonic BDT320 with custom firmware. I can change the region with the remote control. It's the best solution I've come across so far, because the hardware mod I tried was very unreliable, and the software mods were only really good for changing a region B deck to region A. So I've been using genuine A and B hardware for a while now but I wanted to save on space. The custom firmware wasn't cheap (cost me more than the player did!), however it was worth every penny thanks to the stability of the software and the ease with which the region can be changed. |

Are region-free BD players even legal? Not one store in my area carries them at all, I ended up ordering one from amazon today
