What size plasma tv for this Room? Pictures.

I just moved, and the 42" (pictured) looks like it shrunk down to about a 24" on the way over. The room is 17' across, and I sit 8.5/9ft away from the back of the couch to the middle of the tv stand. The tv stand is 56" wide.

My two choices really are the 55/60vt60, or 60st60. I personally think 55" is probably the right size for the room without overpowering it, but i'm not sure.

Also, I have blackout curtains (the turquoise ones) but some sun gets through the blinds on the sliding glass doors that lead to the balcony. What's a good option for that? The glass doors are thankfully on the side, and not directly behind the tv.
