After being extremely disappointed with the ridiculous backlight issues on a Vizio LED, I decided to make the big jump to plasma. Based on CNET's strong recommendation as well as lots of positive user reviews, I decided on a 50" 3D Panasonic Viera TC-P50ST60.
I am two days in and I am extremely happy with the transition. The deep blacks are astounding and the image really pops in comparison to previous HDTVs I have owned (I heard that the image only gets better on a plasma). The whites aren't quite as poppy as on an LED, but that isn't a big deal since the awful backlight bleed is no longer a concern. Despite the bad reviews of the 3D capability on the TV, I think it looks pretty solid, even when you convert a non-3D film to 3D (I watched the original A Nightmare on Elm Street the other day and was blown away by the depth). Of course, I am "breaking it in" by only watching "full frame" movies at the moment. However, at only watching about 2-3 hours a day, if that, it is going to take my quite a long time. |
