I think this is very good news, I just hope that this DTS-MA decoding situation get resolved sometime in the near future, I have so many movies now that I can only hear the core DTS track on.

Yeah,

Great. But I wonder if any of the new features will get use from me.

It would be cool to have a playlist for video including the main feature from the Blu Ray player but,.. doesn't seem like it's going to be there.

Oh well,.. I guess I'll give a whirl tomorrow and see what I think. Certainly isn't the type of 2.0 people hoped for or expected.

Out of curiousity, why the demand for DTS-HD MA? I would think Linear PCM would be a superior audio track over any Dolby or DTS signal which requires processing while Linear PCM does not. I figure ANY processing would create subtle differences in the signal. Listening to Cars and Ratatouille in Linear PCM sounds incredible to me.

Fox doesn't include a PCM on any of their releases, they're all DTS-HDMA. Which should sound the same as PCM, since it should be transparent to the master after it's decoded. I've heard good things about DTS-HDMA in comparison to TrueHD.

Well im very ciked to see the features not mentioned hoping that there are some good ones. Looks like this update was a People pleaser - so many people asking for it so they just came out with it, I think that the features on the surface or ok but I think that the Profile 1.1 has to be the most crucial part that was not talked about.

Yeah, I wish I could hear it, my receiver can decode it, but the PS3 can't bitstream the audio. I'm wondering what the hold up is, I'm assuming it's not Sony specifically, but something with DTS, they must be trying to figure out how to program this into the firmware. Also, seeing how no other firmware updates have allowed this for any other player, this just cements my opinion that it's something with the DTS folks.

Well I hope this fixes the audio issues with the Disney discs... And I also hope we get DTS-HDMA decoding before Cast Away and ID4...

Not only was 1.1 not talked about, but I doubt it's in there. I think they would have made a much bigger deal of it if it was.

for gamers, they want to be able to access xmb while in game so they can check on if a friend logs on they can contact that friend w/o exiting their game.

You can't do that(you can tell how much I play games on my PS3)? The 360 has been able to do that since launch. That's weird, I guess I figured everybody worked kinda like Live. I like how Live is set up a lot . . . if I could just go a little while longer without having my system freeze . . .

Pretty disappointing. Customizing themes is ok but for a 2.0 update I was expecting a lot more.

i dont play ps3 at all, this is from what i heard from another forum. but no, you can't do that. and from your response i think you know why this is in such high demand.

i wanted profile 1.1 on this update, dts-ma is still wishful thinking at this point.

I wouldn't worry about profile 1.1 compatibility; Sony insiders have indicated that this is a delicate political issue because standalone companies (think Panasonic) put a lot of time and money into developing 1.1 players and don't want to have all of their thunder stolen by the PS3.

I would fully expect that the update to profile 1.1 will arrive a week or two before the first 1.1 enabled content goes on sale, so my guess would be mid-late December.

Seriously, Sony is NOT going to risk alienating PS3 users by having 1.1 content not work on the PS3, and it is clearly capable of implimenting it. Let the standalones rack up some sales in November and stop worrying about this...
