Here is something unconventional...maybe we should boycott WB's movies in the theatre so they preform poorly and so when they are released they will get a high resolution audio track....

"Suggested retail for the HD DVD combo is $39.98, while the Blu-ray is a few bucks cheaper at $34.98." I love how the "cheap" format version costs $5 more. hahaha. |

I do not think now is the time to boycott Warner Brothers. To do so would be telling them that the Blu-ray market does not care for Warner titles and help them lean towards HD DVD. It would be detrimental to the Blu-ray format. First we settle the format battle, then we can pressure them to change.
The question is will it even be necessary at that point in time. Their latest title announcement shows that they are heading towards higher audio encodes. |

Yes you are. That movie bomb at the box office and yet it is getting a TrueHD track. Which to date they have only put a lossless track on about 10 titles, if my memory serves me right.

Hey,
Boycott is a very bad idea which is why I think this thread should even be deleted before anyone gets the wrong idea. Currently WB makes all it's HD Media for the specs of HD DUD because they can put that on a Blu Ray but the reverse would not be possible because of Blu Rays better specs. So,.. yes,.. that suxl; However, as soon as HD DUD is killed off they can make the encodes to the higher specs of Blu Ray. And buying WB so that they go Blu Ray exclusive in 08 is the best way to kill HD DUD. Any questions? -Brian |

WB has said they are going to treat both formats equally, so I think you should respect that. What, do you want to make sure this format war wages on forever? You have to use your head on this, not your emotions.

Sarcasm guys, c'mon now.
The OP suggested a leap of logic that maybe the original picture needs to bomb at the box office for it to get a lossless track on a BD release. Therefore, we should all skip the WB movies at the theatre to get a better BD release. This is obviously a tongue-in-cheek statement. OP, correct me if i'm wrong. Everyone just seems to be on edge on the WB thing for no particular reason. Cheers guys. |

a lot of ppl read this as, "warner dont give us truehd, let's boycott their titles". which is not what the OP stated.
as for warner treating both formats equally, i'd like to see them walk the walk with higher bitrate encodes and lossless audio as well as releasing titles like Batman Begins and The Matrix. leaving at least 20gigs of empty space on the disc while filling the other is not treating the formats equally. equal encodes does not mean equal treatment when the 2 formats dont share the same specs. |

hmmm..short minded strategy at best. It's better to buy MORE Warner titles, and perhaps they go Blu. If they do, then they will probably automatically start using higher quality Audio, since they don't have to worry about transfers fitting on 30 GB discs.

i always thought and still think it's the bitrate cap that kills lossless audio on the movies.

The absolute last thing we want to do now is to boycott WB. If anything, it is encouraged to buy more WB titles for the next several months. We should also buy individual discs vs. box sets whenever possible (I.E. = Harry Potter discs separately vs. the box set) as this helps with the Nielsen numbers.
