Default Sony details PS4 digital game sharing policy

PlayStation 4 users can share purchased digital software with any account on their home console, Sony has confirmed in a new FAQ detailing the console's digital policies.

This means digitally purchased games will work across all accounts on the purchaser's primary console.

Meanwhile, users can access purchased titles on any PS4 console that is not their own, though only they can then access the software.

Further, a single PSN account can be active on only two consoles at once: the user's primary console and one other.

These rules also apply to PlayStation Plus: only one subscription is needed per household or console, and the benefits can be accessed from any other console providing the original subscriber is logged in.

Each PSN account will need to be tied to a 'primary' PS4 console.

While this functionality has been announced previously, the new FAQ presents the terms clearly before the console's launch next month.

I don't get it.

Maybe they should talk laymen terms.

Yo bro, you can have 1 account on PlayStation 4 signed in & the same account singed in on another console wether it be PS4, PS3, Vita, whatever. You only get to pick 1 of the 3 systems you may or may not have with us to enjoy PS+

I still don't get it.

I'm pretty sure it's talking two PS4's but I'm not quite clear on it either.

follow the link, it is more clear.

but

if you are a square and you buy DL games anyone (circle, triangle and pentagon) can play them on your PS4 at any time (if you are there or not) in essence that PS4 is you.

On the other hand if you go on the PS4 of your friend circle, triangle or pentagon you can DL and play that game since you are logged into their machine but you can only be at one of their homes.

So circle can be at the squares place on the squares PS4 playing the squares game (logged in as square) while square is logged in at triangles home and playing that same square game.

Ok, so currently on the PS3 I could log in to my brother's PS3, download a game that I have purchased on my account, switch back to his account and let him play said game (keeps him off my console and my tv lol).

By the sound of it, this will no longer be with the PS4, correct?

Yes, BUT the PS4 allows your PSN ID to be in use on 2 consoles at once. So you can game share like you did on the PS3 as long as you share your login info (presumably with a family member).

Thanks Anthony

All this sharing non-sense.

Question in fax should of been added.

Can I play on PS4 with PS+ on it with 2 activated PS3 systems & 1 activated PS Vita system without having to de-activate any of the above mentioned systems?

Yes. So long as you are the primary PS Plus account holder & are signed in you can indeed turn on your other systems & play without having to de-activate any other system.

glad if it helped. The only question(s) I still have on this is
1) can more than one persons have the same machine as their primary (for example for a family)
2) if yes, is there a max.

It's relatively simple.

When you set up your PS4, you will have to declare it as your "Home" or "Main" PS4 console, this "declaration" being tied to your PSN account (This can only be se and undone from the primary PS4 I read).
Anybody that logs to this "Main" PS4, whether with your account or not, can play the games you downloaded with it.

The new sharing policy authorizes you to log in with that very same PSN account to -another- PS4 (Guest PS4) at the same time, and you will have access to your entire digital catalog at the same time.

In essence, it's kind of similar to the cancelled "Family share plan" the XBOX One was going to have, with one caveat: The person logging in must use your PSN account log in, so you should rather trust that person implicitly (ergo family).

PS: we are talking about simultaneous log ins. I think overall your account can be used across 16 devices (think PS3/ PS4/ PSV), just not simultaneously. As far as I understand, the share plan extends to multiplayer too. So with one game purchased digitally, you could play co-op.

You can be signed in on PS4 which allows you to keep your current systems activated?

Do you have to be connected online at all times to use your downloadable content on a second system?

I know it says you have to use your account/screen name, but on PS3 you can switch users without actually connecting to the internet, so I'm wondering if the content can be used offline on console #2 (after having already been downloaded, of course) so long as the screen name associated with the content is selected.

I would like to get a second PS4 sometime down the road, and having the option to access my content offline is important to me.

yes and no. This is much better. The XBOX one applied to disks, this one applies to DL only and on the xbox because it applied to disks you also needed a 24h check in on the primary console, that is not true for the PS4.

I see this one as giving more to someone that prefers DD, the xbone one just closed stuff up for everyone. That was the big issue people had with the xbone. Imagine you buy your game on disk bring it home and because there was no internet connection you could not load and play the game, imagine live goes down for a few days (or your internet connection) and now neither your DD nor your disks play on the home console.

With this model you don't need an on-line connection to play your DDs on your home console.

The second one will need on-line to play (the primary does not). Just think of it, if it did not, what would stop someone from adding his ID to 50 PS4s and then have 50 people play it off-line.

I have to assume this is true. Like video downloads from PSN now. You can have the video file on your HDD, but you can't play it without activating it online. And right now, for video, you can only be active on one PS3. It's a minor issue if you have internet access, as it takes only a minute to activate.

I really think that 24 hour check in boondoggle was about collecting marketing data and marketing access that would be sold to third parties and would be part of the revenue stream for MS. If you can sell targeted advertising on a per-day basis to a susceptible audience, you can kill it.

maybe, I never assumed anything bad on their side just because it made sense on its own so I did not ask why. The machine needed to know what was happening (if you still had the game or not) so the check in made sense. The problem is that if you have the disk why wouldn't just putting it in be enough for that check? And the what ifs made it unpalatable (i.e. imagine moving and so you pack it the day before and the ISP only hooks you up a few days later, how about a hurricane or something nocking down you internet for a few days, last generation live was down for close to two weeks and PSN a month.....)

I get how it works...this is how MS handles it on the 360.

Everyone on the original console can play it, you can play it on any console in the world so long as its your account that is logged into the live/psn network.

2 simultaneous logins? The faq for xbox says only 1 login at any time for 1 profile...

No, single login....but if I download a game on a console first any ID can play it only on that first console...but if I came over to your house I could download and play it on your console only if I was logged in.

That's why any game I want to let the kids play, I throw my memory stick with profile into the living room system and download it there so they can play it there without my live ID...but they can't play the same game in the bedroom unless I'm logged in if I download it there after.

Never tried the same game at the same time on both consoles.....

I'm talking about how the Xbox does it, I think the PS is going to handle it the same way y the sound.
