So I ran a few searches through the Gaming section of the forum, and didn't find anything like a dedicated fighting game thread. So I'm starting my own, if there's an older one that's fallen off the map, point it out and I'll take my posts there.
At any rate... very recently I've gotten more interesting in Fighting Games. Primarily because I just upgraded my PC and there are a handful of popular fighting games on Steam that I'm interesting in. As it is, I'm quite the novice at fighting games. I've tried my hand at them in the past, mostly via arcade emulation (oh dear). I invested in a Mad Catz Fightpad a few years ago and made an attempt at figuring out Street Fighter III for a while. But I never got particularly good at it. The trouble is I never really played Fighting Games regularly as a kid, and I think I suffer for it. As is stands most of my fighting game experience comes from the Capcom VS series. Mostly Marvel Vs Capcom and Tatsunoko Vs Capcom on the Wii (great great game btw). At any rate I decided my first 'new' fighting game franchise is going to be The King of Fighters XIII. Just because I'm A)always interesting in long running 'underdog' franchises and B)a glutton for punishment. Street Fighter IV was probably any easier game to learn, and I'll probably pick it up in a Steam Sale latter. But at the moment its KoFs for me. (though I really wish Capcom would get Ultimate Marvel Vs Capcom 3 up on PC) To facilitate getting better at this, I also decided to upgrade my tools. I dropped a 100 bucks on this beaut, the Soul Caliber V Mad Catz Fightstick. I've had a few days to play around with it, and after a bit of a learning curve (hitting those multiple half-circle rolls is a challenge and a half) I'm liking the feel of it a lot more then the Fightpad. At least from an authenticity standpoint. So yeah, that's what's going on with me and fighting games at the moment. In generally it would be nice to get some general advice about learning the ropes of fighting games. Maybe talk about upcoming games. You know, anything fighting games. |
