Greetings all.
I'm planning a HT upgrade of a few components, and am looking for input and suggestions. Here is what I've narrowed the equipment down to: Speakers - Polk Audio Blackstone TL350 5-Piece Satellite Speaker System Sub Woofer - Polk DSW PRO 440 WI Subwoofer Receiver - Onkyo TX-NR717 7.2-Channel Home Theater A/V Receiver And here is my reasoning as to why I am looking at this: Larger speakers would certainly be something I want, but that's not now. This is a living room setup and floor standing or larger bookshelves are not permitted by my wife. The TV (42" Samsung) sits in a very nice armoire, and it will not move from that because my wife wants the TV hidden when not in use. Therefore, floor-standing speakers are definitely out as are large bookshelves. Based on reviews, the Polks are what I've narrowed down to with price being the driving factor second only to size. With the subwoofer, they are already pushing over the top of my price range (750 for speakers, 300 for sub) and I am hoping to get them refurb from Polk. The Polk TL250 is also an option for speakers as well. The Onkyo receiver has pre-outs which I do not need right now, but I am planning for the future. It also allows for other zones, and I want to be able to put speakers in another room. So....is that a good setup, or is it going to disappoint? I know it will not be a reference system, but I know it will be an improvement over the HTIB I have now. The goal is to have this last for years, and I'm trying to "future proof" as much as I possibly can and have something that I can improve upon/add to later. I am VERY open to suggestions, and I am hoping some of you who have experience with the equipment above can chime in and lend it. My requirements: - Speakers must be small so they're easily hidden (wireless rears would be an awesome plus) - Receiver must be 3d capable, as well as have 4k up-scaling. Also want some with pre-outs if possible, but can be swayed away from that. Must also be 7.2. Will run a 5.1 setup in the living room, but want to run 2 extra speakers to the dining room. Thanks all, I appreciate it. Last edited by camper; 11-12-2013 at 04:19 PM. |
