Just saw SPL 2. Best Hong Kong film of 2015 so far! I almost didnt go see it but I was in the mood for Tony Jaa and Wu Jing. Best movie theater decision i've made in a long time.

SPL 2 is basically a beautifully-made action movie - It's a beautiful movie! Not only are the action scenes well-filmed and intense, but the story, flow, score, and acting is all top notch for a HK action movie. Best dramatic performances I've seen from Jaa and Jing. I teared up not only from the action but also from the emotional moments. Actually everyone is quite awesome in this - Simon Yam, Louis Koo, and all the little side police officers and goons.

It's nice to be reminded that Hong Kong can still make amazing action movies when all the pieces fit together smoothly.

I haven't seen SPL in ages but I remember being impressed with the fight scenes and not so impressed with the story. In SPL 2, the story (as far fetched as it could be at times) is still very exciting so I definitely feel like SPL 2 is the better one even though they are only connected by name.

I was hoping for a Donnie Yen / Tony Jaa showdown, but I guess it won't be in this film...

I have more interest with the background. Nice Hong Kong collection there.

By the way, it's now showing at my local cineplexes. Unfortunately, only at limited spots, and they're quite far from my home.

Nice to hear. Was really disappointed by Wolf Warriors lack of good fighting so hope are on this

I heard there was barely any fighting in Wolf Warriors which is disappointing. One thing about China and Hong Kong is that the turnaround to video release is usually pretty quick. So we can expect a blu-ray pretty soon. Question is whether to get the Hong Kong import or wait for a likely US release.

Hi MarkGL, the HK BD is up for pre-order. Release date is 09/24

Not too happy about the Wire fu, I hope it's not overused. I like Tony Jaa and Wu Jing, Would love to see Donnie vs TJ or Scott Adkins in the future.

From a big fan of the first SPL, this movie IMHO is one of the biggest disappointments of 2015.

While not bad, it doesn't hold a candle to the first installment. The fight choreography is rather lackluster. Wu Jing's skills are mostly wasted here and Tony Jaa is repeating his signature moves. The Warden - Jin Zhang - is the standout in this movie with the unfortunate assistance of some wire-fu.

Just don't expect anything half as good as the first one.

Love the first movie and but have little hope this will be as good.

DDDHouse are now saying October 8th, as are Buyoyo.

It was definitely Sept 24th when I ordered it, with the 17th given as the date to have your order in for.

I read somewhere that Well Go USA has the rights, so it'll probably see release pretty soon.

Finally got to see this and my god, what a mess.
The story is all over the place, the coincidences in the plot are laughable and more importantly the action scenes are badly shot and edited with yet again over use of wirework.
Do yourself a favour and watch the original SPL which is far. far superior.
HK Action movies really are at there lowest ever, Kung Fu Killer was good and i am looking forward with reservations to Ip Man 3, but apart from Donnie Yen, who is there?
