Default Fox Eyes "The Expendables" Event Series w/ Stallone and Avi Lerner Producing

"The Expendables" Event Series in the Works at Fox with Sylvester Stallone Producing
by Nellie Andreeva
March 5, 2015

TV action stars are getting "The Expendables" treatment as Sylvester Stallone’s hit feature franchise is heading to television.

Fox is developing "The Expendables", an event series based on the movies, with the franchise’s writer and star Stallone executive producing alongside the films’ producer Avi Lerner.

Writing/executive producing the TV adaptation are feature writing duo Greg Coolidge (Ride Along) & Kirk Ward and "NCIS: LA" executive producer/showrunner Shane Brennan.

It is described as a fun action drama that unites iconic TV stars as a new team of highly-skilled heroes who are on a mission to stop a dangerous terrorist.

The project hails from Lionsgate TV, whose feature sibling distributes "The Expendables" movies, and CBS TV Studios, where Brennan is under an overall deal.

Also executive producing the potential event series, for which Fox has ordered a script, is Kevin King, long-time executive at Stallone’s Rogue Marble production company.

There is no cast attached or approached yet but the producers have plenty of beloved TV action stars to choose from:

"24‘s" Kiefer Sutherland, "Magnum P.I.’s" Tom Selleck, "Xena‘s" Lucy Lawless, "Quantum Leap‘s" Scott Bakula, "Alias‘" Jennifer Garner, "A-Team‘s" Mr. T, "Strike Back‘s" Sullivan Stapleton and Philip Winchester and, of course, Chuck Norris.

I think the idea of the TV series would be more interesting than another expendables movie.

I couldn't agree more, I don't think there will be another expendables film tob. Stallone got his trilogy and now he is moving it to the smaller screen.

Realistically? TV action stars who can do their own stunts would be actors like Mark Valley, Adrian Paul, Kristanna Loken and Mark Dacascos. Some old school names they could throw in would be someone like Don Johnson or Fred Dryer. Other TV badasses include Max Martini, Carlos Bernard and Dominic Purcell.

Yeah, they will be going after the bigger names but they likely won't sign on for this. I would really like to see Don Johnson in this maybe a few newer TV action stars like Kiefer Sutherland (24) and Jim Caviezel (POI). Tom Selleck (Magnum PI), David Hasselhoff (Knight Rider), Richard Dean Anderson (Macgyver) and Mr. T (The A Team) all come to mind when making an ultimate 80s TV throwback though it would look ridiculous to see them all together now on this show. I won't watch it if it is going to include a bunch of nobodies, it just sounds like Sly is trying to milk every $ from the expendables name.

Jim Caviezel wouldn't be an iconic TV star of yesterday, plus he already has a job, and Tom Selleck and Scott Bakula currently have jobs too. Kiefer Sutherland probably wouldn't do it.

It's like how the movies are touted -- "Blade, Indiana Jones, Rambo and The Terminator team up." So in this case, they probably want "the Highlander, the Knight Rider, Hunter, MacGyver, Sonny Crockett, Bo Duke, Hercules" and so forth. I wonder if they could get Remington Steele?

Yeah I know Jim Caviezel wouldn't be that is why I said they could throw in a few new faces. I just don't know how many of these people Sly can persaude to join the show. It would be fun to see all of those listed but realistically I can't see it happening. Miracles do happen though. I have no interest in seeing it if it will end up with Adrian Paul, Erik Estrada etc. I can see Dolph Lundgren, Randy Couture and maybe Terry Crews join the show for a few episodes.

Only interested if they'd have Banshee style acttion in it. That's the only action series worth watching imo.
