Default Resolution Question please help aaaaarrrrrrhhhh.

I have a Samsung 32inch lcd 1366x768 resolution and a ps3 im told my tv supports 1080i and 720p.How will my tv display 1080i if there are only 1366x768 pixels. Also most important question should I watch my blu-ray movies with my ps3 set to 720p or 1080i?

It will display 720, not 1080.

The PS3 also has an auto adjust that detects the res of the TV, it should work.
It will set it to the highest quality it can handle regardless of the TV, be it a SD or a 1080p.

For watching movies 1080i is better. If you are on the internet through your PS3 then 720p will work marginally better. Progressive scan was invented with computer moniters in mind b/c it makes non-moving letters and numbers appear more stable. The 1080i sends more information to your tv. That is a simplified, but accurate answer to your question.

This is one thing that drives me nuts about the cheap (yes, I'm referring to price AND quality) TVs on the market. people buy them because they state on the packaging that they are 1080i HDTV READY. The reason that they can state that is because the 768 lines of horizontal resolution slightly exceeds the 720 that would classify it as such. Therefore, if it goes beyond the 720 horiaontal lines, then you might as well classify it with a rating that suits the next available resolution. SO many people are being led astray by these TVs! Heck, I even saw one advertised that was having difficulty with the Blu-ray feed because the resolution on the disc was too high!!! It kept cutting out and jumping all over the different resolutions sporadically with a lot of black screen!

So even tho the tvs 1366x768p it can show an image of 1920x1080i.I was always told my movies would look better in a progressive image thats why i was thinking if my tv is 768p native i should watch my movies 720p instead of converting it to 1080i

In short your films will look better in 720p then 1080i as the image will actually be downscaled to 720i as your set is not a full HD set. Unfortunately it is just a marketing trap that lots of people fall into. Just because a screen can handle a 1080i or 1080p image doesn't mean thats what you're looking at. And just for reference you can only really tell the difference in a 720p image and a 1080p image on screens over 40inch's
