Default Do Parents Parent Anymore?

Main question - Why is this "toddler" playing with beads that he was not suppose to be playing with? Where were the parents?

umm, kids can be playing with something in the corner and while you're watching shit just happens. when i was a kid my grandma gave me a bubble wand thing. even though i was being watched, i still drank the bubbles. it wasn't bad parenting but just a kid being a kid

too true... kids can get themselves into all kinds of trouble in a VERY short time.... which is why I don't have kids yet. =)

Although I agree that Parents need to setup the parenting, I also have to say accidents do happen. Sure you can watch your children but the more you have the harder it is to keep an eye on them.

I understand sh!t happens. I really do. However, common sense tells you a toddler should NOT have access to small beads. Period. Whether the parent is watching or not. Why would that toy be available to a child like that? That's my thing.

The toddler was playing with his sister's toys. If the parents let the toddler play with this toy then I'm in 100% agreement with you. However if the toddler went into something his wasn't suppused to be in, then accidents do happen.

It sounds like the Parents let the toddler play with it, so I agree. You shouldn't let a toddlers play with objects that they can swallow.

I still see plenty of involved, caring, and in-control parents with my middle school kids. I would say that the only thing I've seen change over the last decade is that the "Me" Generation's kids have started to arrive over the past year and it is obvious when they speak with educators. They simply accept when their children do not do their work, will try to make excuses for them, and then just give up and say "oh well." Some even try to get educators to basically raise their children for them, even to the point of wanting educators to come by their home and "get them to do their homework". The "Me" Generation tends to treat their children like family pets: the put out the food and water, play with them for awhile, but want them to go do their own thing when the parents get tired of them or their behaviors (they become someone else's problem). Like I said, I still see plenty of great kids, but this shocking element of some wanting to be their kids' "best friend" is outrageous. If you're a parent, that is what you need to be. They need other kids to be their friends, and you the parent. Step up and do the job! To those involved, caring parents, a HUGE THANK YOU! Even if you find growing pains to struggle through, your child will be successful because you're involved, caring, CONSISTENT, and the parent!!!

OK, off the soapbox now!
